the dccd does not deal with power output or, split power to the front or back wheels. think of it as more of a "how much slip are you willing to allow" control.

Evo = stronger internals from the factory. Thus more power pontential on stock internals. However if you plan to swap out the internals of either car, I imagine it would be a more fair playing ground. I had an 02 bugeye with 2.5L hybrid motor, STI RA gearset, and a VF22 turbo. Virtully no turbo lag, and fun as hell in the snow. Of course, thats more of a frankensetein, not really the same as a 04-05 STI.

For me it was Evo > Subaru...

-cheaper insurance (for me anyways)
-parts are cheap and plentiful
-power is made easily
-Less common then the subaru
-4g63 has been around forever, lots of local tuners
-very easy to work on
-great community
-A tune isnt REQUIRED for every bolt-on, like a subaru
-Stock ECU can be flashed easily
-The stock Evo 16g may be the best stock turbo in a car ever

There is nothing wrong with 03-04 viii's. In fact they have the 5 spd tranny which in my opinion is a better tranny. If you just plan on throwing simple bolt ons at it however then yes you will probably be better of getting an 05-06 ix. I have an 04 viii and will have somewhere in the low seven hundreds, but drove the car for over a year with over 500whp on stock tranny, lsd, and bottom end without issue. Btw i actually traded an 04 sti for my 04 evo. I did it just because i prefer the over all balance of the evo over the sti. Anyways i'm sure youll enjoy any way you go! Good luck!
