Plz read!
u learn on an evo u can drive any car stick, especially since the evo's clutch is different and requires more leg power to press and hold it in. this however gives you a nice advantage of being able to feel where the clutch engages the engine a little MUCH easier. but only learn on an evo if ur willing to buy a new clutch and if ur like my co-worker, a noob who doesnt press the clutch while changing gears....grind away those synchros and gears baby....hope u got 3-4k for a new tranny ^_^
on a serious note like what i said above, its a piece of cake to learn stick if ur not stupid. i learned to drive stick on my evo and ii HARDLY stalled. mastered that **** in a day.
after u get used to driving it normally, take yourself to a inclined road where you can learn how to stop-go on a hill. sure its scary cuz the car rolls back. there are many ways to go about it. foot brake, e-brake or playing with the clutch.
foot brake= obviously like a flat road except when u let go of the break you have to be quick with clutch release and give it a bit more gas than usual cuz the car will roll back
e-brake= leave gear in 1st, pull up e-brake but DO NOT let ur thumb off the lock button. keep it pressed. when ur ready to go. slowly release the clutch until u feel the engine sounding like its about to die, then give it gas and put the e-brake down. personally i never used this technique so ask other ppl on its effectiveness
clutch= on an incline i generally let myself roll a little bit back and release the clutch to the point where the car STOPS rolling back and tend to hold it there. or you can play with the gas and clutch simultaneously moving back n forth a little bit ( i do it to personally have fun scaring the person behind me LOL)
its easy as 1 2 3. sure you'll stall a few times but its part of the process. EVERYONE stalls at least once in awhile even the veterans. just have confidence and stick will be cake

You do not need to add gas when the car lurches forward, the point of not giving any gas is so he learns where it engages.
Telling new stick driver to give the car gas usually ends up bad.
You have never blipped the throttle on a slow 1-2 shift??? I find that very very hard to believe.

See how long your clutch lasts if you do that often. Just a heads up.
It's not hard at all. i had never driven a MT before i got my vw gti 337. bought it, drove it home. i'll never buy a AT again.
a good way to practice is on a slight upward slope. play with your clutch and gas untill you can hold the car steady without the break and you'll find the amount of gas and where your clutch engages easily

I don't care how good a friend is, I will never let anyone drive my car and more so if they don't know how to drive a manual. Why the hell should I have to pay my friend to teach him how to drive? That's what it ends up coming down to after they kill your clutch or at least shave a few thousand miles off of it.

i was j/k but the rental i actually think would be a good idea and have a friend who knows how to drive it teach you ofcourse buy the extra insurance
Alright alright :P I don't think any rentals have manuals though. 95% of the population doesn't know jack about them and having 2 manuals on the lot wouldn't help hardly any of their customers. I had to tell a girl at work that paddle shifters is not a manual transmission....I'm sure she went around telling everyone she drove a manual for a bit.
