what mods to do before my tune?

hey guys im finally getting my evo next week and know that technically if i put any aftermarket parts in my car that it should be tuned but 400 extra is something i wont have right away. the car im buying already has a bov and turboback exhaust with a highflow cat. my plans right away would be a test pipe(after inspection ). megan o2 housing, injen intake and intercooler pipes, walbro fuel pump and ported exhaust manifold. will my car be safe to drive like that or will i blow my turbo up or mess up the car? thanks

No-one can say for sure if it will blow up or not for instance has it been tuned before ,,, if so for what boost levels ,,, as long as you drive sensibly and dont push to much boost its pretty hard to blow up a stock turbo evo unless the tune has been messed with ,,, if you know anyone in the area with evoscan see if they will log and make sure your getting no knock ... otherwise i thought mail in tunes. i.e. mellon were cheaper then that maybe im wrong (he does a great job by the way).. keep the boost at a minimum just until you find out if its knocking or not.

The turbo isn't what you are going to have to worry about. I would recommend a tune.

yea im just cheaping out. i know its for the best. and no the car has never been tuned before. so adding anything else besides turboback exhaust requires a tune? that sucks lol. i guess ill have to deal with it and fork up the dough if thats the case.

the car is also wingless and apex silver so since i dont know too much about evo's right now and cant get my post count up if anyone wants to trade for a apex silver trunk with a wing let me know. the holes were professionaly filled and painted

You don't have to get it tuned as long as you keep your foot out of it. Can you honestly do that though? You may also have drivability issues if you don't tune it.

How about you just save up for the parts and a tune. Is it really worth skimping on a few hundred bucks to ruin a $20k car?

yeah the best thing would be to get a mail in tune for now until you get more mods, that's what i'm planning on doing. and o2 sim won't do anything in regards to tune or not tuned, it just won't throw a cel no matter what

or like markymark said, just save the parts up and maybe buy another part or two i.e. intercooler and piping,... and slap it all on right before spring and get a tune then to make it worth it

Just order the parts, save for the tune, and when u have enough money do the install and tune at one time, preferably by the same shop
