wow thx for all the input fellas... ok as far as mods go I most likely will not be doing any power mods to the car and I baby all my cars so I doubt I will have issues with the 6 speed. I read alot of the tranny threads as far as the 5 versus the 6 and alot people said the 5 speeds have syncro issues and the 6 speed would be fine as long as I didn't abuse the car and I perform the proper servicing for it. As for the suggestion about buying a new X, this does not exclude me from having issues with the car and I know some of you will hate for saying this but, I am not a fan of the X and most dealerships around here refuse to give deals on them... I am not paying MSRP for a new X.

I thought about the whole warranty thing and its true, it is hit or miss as I found this owning the STi... some Subaru dealerships were ok with some mods and others actually really started questioning my car whenever I brought it in for like a free inspection sticker. I know one Mitsu dealer around that is fairly mod friendly or at least I heard it is... I understand I am taking a gamble here with either car but that is why I chose to look for one with very low miles. If the GSR was cheaper and could get the dealer to sell it for 23ish then maybe I would go for it but 26k is just way much and they didn't wanna budge on it.

thanks for all the replies everyone and anymore are welcomed

FYI, The dealerships I went to were all mod friendly...they still gave me the "mechanic cannot replicate" BS, even though I showed them one issue occurring right in front of the service adviser.

Good luck!

well after giving it some thought and a going back and forth between dealerships... I decided on the MR, I got them down another $500 bux so its still less expensive than the GSR and its my favorite color... GG
I drove an MR here and I like so much more than the GSR...

I am driving 500 miles to get it so thats gonna sux but it will be worth it. Thx again for all the input everyone and I will post some pics of the car when I return home with it.

Your warranty is going to be voided anyway, so just go with the color you like better.

Seems like you're not really having a hard time at all. Both car seems great but my advice would be to go for the IX MR. The MR is great if you're not planning on hard core tracking (although part-time trackers have told me their tranny holds up just fine). I chose my MR because I love the extra bits and pieces that comes with it, and I actually love the 6 speed. It's a lot nicer on the freeway

Oh and about not modding it...I said that in May when I got my car, mostly stock.

Here my car sits in November

well I got the MR and I am sooooooo happy I went with it. I drove all the way to Kentucky from Virginia and it was worth it. As soon as I saw the car, I fell in love with it. It is so clean and it appears that is was mainly a garage queen.

Upon my return to VA, I washed and waxed the car and cleaned it out. I drove to a local Mitsu dealer the next day and I had them change the oil and I started probing them about mods/warranty questions and I was surprise to find out that they were actually a bit friendly about it. Of course I took it with a grain of salt as we all know how dealerships can be. So the oil change gets done and here comes Mr. Service Tech and tells me that my car needs an alignment and that the tires in the rear are cupped on the inside... not bad but enough that the tires are done. The car has 10k miles on the clock so the stock Yokos are starting to show some wear. Well he tries to sell me on the "its best to do an alignment.... blah blah... your car may have something bent but we wont really know until we do an alignment... blah blah"
I knew I was not gonna let them do it since a good friend of mine has an Autoshop. I left there and took the car to my buddy's shop and had an alignment done. Looks like the car ran on a bad alignment for sometime... well at least enough to cup the inside of the rear tires. No biggie... I will be purchasing some Gramlights and new tires here in the next month. Going with some Swift springs to lower the car... not a fan of the 4x4 truck look so I can't wait to drop the car a bit. Well I am extremely happy with my car and here are some pics of it. Thanks again for everyone that helped out with advice.

The car is immaculate and I had 3 of my mechanic friends check the car out, 1 is familiar with EVOs and one of them has an Autobody shop and all 3 of them told me that I bought one very clean car. It has no dings and no bodywork done and also looks very clean from under once it was on the lift. Well here are some pics.
