IMO if you spend a lot of time cruising on freeway, you should get a 2wd car.

The Best Tranny option for the five speed guys is not a six speed conversion...waiting for a rebuild and swapping out different gears is better .. Shep offers this option for evo's

For example im sending in my tranny (5-speed evo IX) and it's coming back with an evo 8 Third and fourth gear upgrade...

But this is what makes the Evo great in any situation. And why I love it on the freeway. Super stiff with road noise - so what. Its strengths make a difference on a road filled with idiots, aka: LA traffic. Super quick steering, excellent brakes, power when needed, and a big wing to intimidate other drivers it does the SLICE AND DICE like nothing else, not to mention it is fun passing people on 2 lane circular on-ramps. It is the perfect freeway warrior for an enthusiast.

There's just nothing else like an Evo. Which is why I want another one, but I dont want to give up anything my 8 has. Like gearing that works at hi-speed and the decent mpg that results. I know changed the gearing on the X to make up for the weight gain, so why not add the extra gear for better mpg and hi-speed ability? As it is, it is inferior to the 8 in this aspect.

I could pick up an '08 with 0%, but by the time I did bluetooth and the tune, that kinda negates the benefit of the 0% and discount.... so, I wait.

I have a few other 2wd cars, but they are not Evos.

- I still want a 6MT. I like to cruise at 80-85 on the freeway, which is where I spend most of my time. I'd rather not be turning over 4000 rpms. But I do not want the TC-SST.

- The factory tune could be better. Where's the extra power to go with the insane handling?

- The X needs standard bluetooth. There's a hands-free LAW in California now, and wearing a headset sucks in a car as noisy as the Evo.

Anyone else shopping the X but deciding to wait?
Not having a 6th gear. Is my only complaint about my X GSR. Other than that. It still a much better car compared to the previous ones. Just love the new dash layout+interior. Not to mention the smooth new lines on the outer body..

true about 6th gear as OD. I travel about 30min one way to work everyday and I'd enjoy more if the rpm is lower.

3700 RPM on stock tires

Why you shouldn't have made this thread (Dear Threadstarter)

What is the point of this thread?

-You don't need a 6 speed to cruise the highway. Does anyone really buy the Evo for gas mileage? I highly doubt it.

-The factory tune can be manipulated with a tune from a reputable shop or a chip, etc.

-You can install the bluetooth module yourself and buy the kit for cheap.

lol offended..?
I'm waiting for any little bugs to be worked out, and maybe a 6th gear. Plain and simple, it'd just be nice to have.
It's always safer not to get the very first model of anything
PS I live near Peoria too

:edit: well not that I was planning on giving the X another go, but I definitely liked those 09's that aren't coming

Calling a x much better than previous evo's is a tough pill to swallow. The weight and engine alone has turned many away.

AMS is currently creating sleeves as I write just so the engine can hold substantial power.

IMO the pics of the interior aren't spectacular either. Take any other luxury car in the same price range and you will see my point.
I don't think an evo x is a down grade by any means...but calling previous evos bad quality is just silly.

I'm not offended I could care less. I just don't know why there's so many random threads about nothing. I guess you guys will be waiting until 2010 unless Mitsu decides send the 09 models over, and even those will just have the updated reflash.

Where do you live at? You can pm me if you don't want to post it in here.

Your statement is bland.

The car weighs a little over 200 more which can easily be fixed with some weight reduction, but not to as much of an extent as can be done with the IX. The engine was unproven compared to the 4g63, so I'm sure that did turn some people away, but what does that matter?

AMS always builds their motors before they start pushing them. They've done this with all previous evo models. They were running 450+ just fine.

I by no means think previous evo's are poor quality. I actually was in the market to buy one, but couldn't find one with low miles local in any color other than black ((already three running around in this area), so I decided to go pick up an X.

As people probably know, there is a lot of space between 4th and 5th on the '05, if you wind out 4th, you bog when you go to 5th... but it does help on the freeway. A 6MT that keeps the close ratios in 1-5 but has 6th as an OD gear would be ideal....
anything BELOW 1:1 gear reduction ratio is OD. thus making MR models double OD

Actually I think a new gsr compared to an viii gsr is more like 300lbs....which is a lot imo.

You misunderstood my ams comment. Everyone builds these motors....but theres a huge difference in dropping pistons and rods into an viii/ix engine compared to sleeving an engine. Easily double the price to build a x engine.

I really like the new x.....so im not hating anyones car. But I personaly would not buy an evo and keep it stock...so in that mind frame a x is just to costly to make equally as fast as my viii. Its just my opinion.

You don't have to reply if you don't like the thread.
Why the need to tell people what is worth posting and what isn't? LOL. Hall monitors were for grade school.

reads the board and I honestly think it's more effective to post here than to try to contact their customer service people, who will just give you the company line. That's why I'm posting the reason why I didn't buy YET. wants to hear from its enthusiast customers who have money to spend, who are cross-shopping other cars, not just the punks who buy an Evo and post a bunch of smack-talking nonsense on the internet.

I want an Evo that doesn't necessarily need tuning or tweaking when I drive it off the lot. It's nice to know I have the option, and it's nice to know what the car is capable of with a tune, but it doesn't mean I should have to make up for something that was lacking in the car in the first place.

kyooch is right, buying a 1st year model carries some risk.
