idle problem with evo 8

I am looking into an evo, but it has a minor idle problem. The idle stuck at like 1500 at one point before it dropped to 900. Then while the timer was running, right before it shut off it shot up again to something like 1500 again. The rest of the car checks out ok. I have been told it could be the air intake kit on it. I noticed it had a hks filter but didn't look at it too close, as to what else was installed at the intake. I have also been told cams might be doing it? I have found out it does have cams now. Don't know which kind though. What could be this idle problem? I really like the car and am really close to getting it, I just would like to get this figured out.

put a stock intake on it and i'm sure the idle will be back to normal. HKS filter is gar'bage. It could be something else? IAC, dirty maf, dirty throttle body.

I have the same problem with my aftermarket metal intake pipe. It gets bad when the outside temp is below 30F but in the summer it idles fine. I got used to it. If I put my stock rubber pipe on it fixes it but messes with the tune.

Then that's the problem if the car is not tuned specificaly for a air intake with mass air pipe then you'll experience these type of problems also it will stall at almost every stop light my suggestion is to either get a stock intake with oem mass air tube or if you like the sound of the stock bov and hear the turbo spool up and pick up around 10whp use a buschur filter setup for 80 buck's.

Also forgot to mention if that doesn't take of the issue then it might have a vaccum leak somewhere or one of the sensor's can be bad try to look for another evo there plenty out there this one look's like it will give you problems in the future.

I think if you could see it, you wouldn't want to pass it up. It is in excellent condition. The interior is like brand new still, the outside is almost perfect except for a little fading on the carbon part of the spoiler, a small ding above the rear pass. wheel and a rock chip on the pass fender right next to the headlight. I am not putting any of you down and I appreciate all your help, but it just seems too hard to pass up cause of a small idle problem. Especially in the price range I am wanting to spend.

^ You have no idea what was done to the motor. I suggest calming down, and relaxing with your impulse to buy. Lemons can be cleaned up, end of the day it's still gonna be a lemon.

I am hopefully gonna go back and check the car over once more. I know what Im looking at when it comes to a 4g63. I may not know evos exactly but I know what to look for as far as ghetto rigs and such. I am also going to get in the car and check the boost level and I am gonna get on it all the way to redline, just to see if anything pops up.

I am a bit jumpy in buying a new car. Ill admit that. It is an EVO!! LOL I have been like dreaming to have one for awhile. I got the old school mitsu in my talon in the garage, and now I can drive an evo as a daily. It just seems so badass to me!

Whats that supposed to mean! Not a whole lot done though honestly. I am going to call the local dealer tomorrow and find out if its been in for any recall or warranty repairs.
