Thanks!
Guys,
I think my first post may have been a bit vague. I'm not looking for a "how to' guide when it comes to modding. I just want to learn a little bit about what some basic mods (i.e. xede/works, exhaust, boost controllers, etc.) do, their advantages (increased power, reduced weight, etc.), disadvantages (i.e. reliability compromises, increased emissions, increased fuel consumption, cost, etc.).
In other words, I'm not looking to monster mod, I'd just like to educate myself a bit.
Regards,
Rev

what does the 3" exhaust do?
well...if ur thirsty...and u drink through a small straw...u don't get much....if u drink through a bigger straw, say twice the size u get a lot more with the same amount of...can't think of another word for this...but, suckage...lol no dirty comments alright!!
But basically it allows teh car to breathe easier, allows better airflow and frees up more HP..just like an Air Intake would, or if u bore out your headers....makes the opening bigger allowing more air to flow in.
thats ur basic explanation on the 'intake/exhaust' part.
i know that adjusting ur air/fuel ratio allows u to run more fuel or less fuel per cycle(Revolution)....more fuel u obviously use more fuel but will get a few more HP. but to much fuel and ur engine can't burn it and it gets really dirty inside ur engine reducing HP and the life of the engine.
don't quote me, other ppl can help just as much, but thats my impression on what they do.
one really big thing that helps a lot...is new shocks/springs and performance tires...
u can't go fast with ur tires spinning off the line...or if they are bouncing around and not sticking to the pavement...
although u are AWD u won't have as much as a problem as say my little FWD car...but the better ur tires stick to the road, and stay on the road..the better acceleration and turning u can have...for a real life application...ever run on ice? didnt think so..lmao but anyways, yeah u can run better on pavement with running shoes than u can on ICE with the same shoes.
theres my brief explanations on this stuff....have fun and best of luck...i would of bought the EVO but im only 18 and im only making about $1k a month and i doubt that could of covered the insurance let alone the car payement, but its all good, i envy all u EVO guys.
P.S. ill match u EVO guys soon as i drove the GSX engine and AWD system into my lancer....lmao riiight it'd be cheaper to buy the EVO.
