Thinking of buying one...

I made a thread before but I cannot find it. Wierd. Anyways last night I drove a 2008 GSR and man was I surprised. I am coming out of a modded Mazdaspeed3. I just missed the AWD so much I am really really thinking of getting an EVO GSR. The acceleration is great and the way the car drives and the driving position is just top notch! I have driven almost everything from the G37s, is350, Challenger rt 6 speed, 2008 Mustang GT500, Mini cooper s JCW, BMW 335i, Audi A4 s tune....everything! I just really really like the car and I got this feeling while driving it and sitting in traffic of "Man, I am driving an EVO...sweet!"

The only car I can compare it to from what I drove was the Mini JCW edition...but I just cannot get over the looks of the MINI, its so awkward and funky...the EVO is aggressive but not over the top and is much quicker and it had AWD!

I was really hell bent on getting an Anerican muscle car and swore I would not get another import...but the Evo is refined and Nice! I was shocked how well the dials and knobs felt and how easy everything is to access from inside the cockpit...very nice!

As an owner of a JCW and an X, I think both are a blast to drive but the driving experience is very different.

The only car that I would consider would be the BMW 335xi. It had loads of power and AWD, but it does not handle as well as the Evo. It makes up for that by being far more livable.
But in the end the great 335 is essentially a dull machine and they are also everywhere which further takes away any personality the car might have.

An Evo X is an edgy enthusiast machine dedicated almost entirely to the driving experience. Few cars under 100K really match up, including the M3, which also lacks AWD.

An Evo X with a bit of tuning is pretty unique in the marketplace for now.

I'd say if you like it, go for it! You are your own person and yes we do have the occasional "wine" thread where certain little issues seem to bother people in major ways that they end up selling there X or trading it in for another car that will have similar issues if not different issues. I'm not saying I've never owned a car that never had issues, they all have. But a lot of these threads could be eliminated by just simply using the search function in this forum and/or researching outside of the forums.

I just got mine man and I really love it! I am coming from a IX RS which was a nice car, but it just didn't have the comfort and roomy feel that the X has. Even if the X had the manual locks and windows I would like it better however.

I personally won't buy an american car ever again... although i've only owned 1. The japanese cars are better in every area hands down IMO, so the muscle car would be out for me... and even if you did buy a muscle car.. it could be faster in a straight line, but the fun of the Evo is being able to move through turns, and watch those muscle cars just get smaller and smaller... there is hardly a car out there that can match the performance of the Evo for under 50,000... make that american cars and you have pretty much none of them.

Yeah, I agree. That was the 1 thing that bothers me about the muscle cars. Its just straight line. I love taking turns and having the peice of mind of AWD. Reading that people have had issues with their cars ie...having clutches replaced already at 11k miles and brake issues really makes me wonder if these people know how to drive their cars and take care of them. I have owned multiple stick shift cars and never had to replace a clutch that early...holy god! I earned how to drive stick in my wrx and I replaced the clutch at 40K..and that was because I learned on that car! I beat the crap out of it the first month I owned it because I didnt have a clue. Now I can drive stick as if its second nature.

A lot of people are very hard on their cars... but don't admit it... they just like to make it out like it's the car makers fault and that the clutches are " weak ".

I agree. Don't get me wrong, the Evo is made to go fast and have fun with ( in the appropriate places ) but there is still such a thing as taking care of it. Knowing how to drive a stick properly and just " knowing how to drive stick " are 2 different things and some peoples egos cannot handle being told they are not doing it the right way.
