Are BOV Necessary????
On a turbo vehicle they are very necessary and OEM manufacturers do include them, they are commonly referred to as Air bypass valves and they are designed to let excess boost out when the throttle is closed so you don't blow stuff apart, that is why you hear them when you let off the gas, like during shifting. Most ppl change them cuz they are running much higher boost then stock and NEED an aftermarket one to hold the higher boost.
Anyway, to the OP:
Most common blow off valves are used by the members of our car community who like to ride with their seats leaned way back, their music real loud, and their visors turned way around. You know, the SERIOUS racer crowd. There's a select few that run vent to atmosphere diverter valves that actually need to because of a speed density conversion. Those guys are so elite that we don't even talk about them here in the Newbie forums, though.
yeah for nowi slapped an evo IX mr one on my evo VIII. because the evo VIII one is plastic and junk just like the 2g wclipseone mentioned earlier. they have trouble holding stock booston some vehicles, lol but mine holds the boost fine and i don't wanna upgrade unless i really have too, because unlike all my friends, i'm not a fan of the whoosh sound
