new evo buyer is this worth buying
new evo buyer is this worth buying
some advise please?
I'm streching my budget to buy an evo, I found a 2006 evo IX with 62k for $18,500. It's a little rough, paint looks like its seen a lot freeway, (chips in the front) and the interior is ok, but some wear on steering wheel. It's all stock except an intake. Drives good but needs rotors, wheel pulsates under light braking. I'm an experianced engine builder so I'm not so concerned with the engine, but what other problems should I expect on an evo with this much mileage??
Is it worth the risk and rough edges for this price??
thanks for any advise!!!

If I were you, I wouldn't buy it. Its not worth stretching your budget for any car, especially these days. I would also sock away another few hundred for basic maintenance since there is 62k on the clock as well. Tranny, TC, diff and brake fluid. Then the rotors...
The Evo is a great car, but I think you will still be able to find a great deal a little later, maybe when your budget isn't so tight.

That seems to be a fair price for a 9 with that mileage. The person probably never cut the rotors and its reasonable to assume it would need it at that mileage. I would talk them down a grand and it would be a fair price for both buyer and seller. If you have to stretch your budget just to get a car though, then I'd wait and save up a few extra pennies. There will always be other Evo's for sale later on down the road.
I guess you get want you pay for (something a little rough around the edges) I would think a nice 62K IX would bring in another $3K. So its more of a question to you, does this fit what your looking for? Personally for myself, I usually pay a little bit of premium for mint car, so the good deal with a some flaw usually doens't work for me.
No car is worth being poor man. There will always be a deal. There will always be the next big thing. Delay gratification and you will be better off. Also, you can find good Evo 8's for around 15k-16k. That seems to me to be a lot of millage for a 06 car, but you should be okay.
I should have waited to buy another evo. My 06 MR feels like a mistake I bought. bought it for 27k July of 08 and it seems like I pretty much ended up with the previous owners problems. He put in some Hyper ground system **** and my whole wiring harness fried and had to pay 2600 at the dealer due to that aftermarket part and my tranny blowin on me and now i gotta spend probably another 3500 for a new clutch/flywheel and rebuild the tranny. I think we just have to keep in mind buying a used car is a risk buying the previous owners problems

thanks for the great advise guys, I think I had Evo Fever. I wanted one bad and was willing to just take what I could barely afford.
I've decide to chill for a while until I can sell my current ride and save a few more bucks. Then find a nice Evo that I really want.
