brake rotors and pad prices and break in period?

Hello everyone

(Also posted this in the brake section of the Evo1-9 Forum)

I just had my car (Evo IX SE, completely stock and never raced) at the dealer today for measuring and as it turns out replacing the brakes and all brake parts. The total for parts was about 1600 and with labor and taxes it was almost 2000 bucks. Is that the normal price for the stock brembo pads and rotors? My service guy is very friendly and explained everything to me. I drive very relaxed and never really stepped on the brakes and now after 27000 miles I had zero or 1 millimeter pad thickness left and all the discs had to be replaced also.
Anyway...on the way home I was scared. What is the break in period for new pads and rotors? The car almost did not brake at all...just coasting to a stop and when I got home the rotors in the front were pretty hot and I also hear a slight rubbing noise while driving. The main thing that scard me though was that the car was steering by itself here and there...not just pulling to the left or right but all of a sudden there was some steering input either right or left. Very twitchy.
Is all of that normal and may go away after a 100 miles or so?
Thanks guys...Your answers are greatly appreciated.

you got jipped. Paid at least $1400 too much. Should cost you 500-600 everything said and done if you do it yourself. $250-300 - Rotors, $200-270 pads, $30 in fluids

Mitsu wanted $250 for the front pads and the same for the rear. I have no idea how much rotors are. I just hit up slowboy for Hawk pads $170 all around shipped.

Dude check girodisc here on the boards for the "bailout" deal, pads and rotors for cheap. Especially if you are not hard on the brakes. Good luck, Im doing magic pads and slutted rotors this weekend. Do it yourself and save some money!!!!!

I believe its about 200 miles, you have to go easy on the brakes, just drive normally - try to avoid slamming on them suddenly

things should be settled in by then

you will want to go easy for say a few stops probably best on a lone road...then you have to bed brakes by going to 60mph and warm up the brakes by slowing down for a few...after that go from 60mph and brake hard down to about 10mph..never to a complete stop.

How much did you pay for those buddy???

But yes, anytime you change pads or rotors they take a while to get bedded in.
