Do I have a bad clutch?

So as some of you might know, I bought my EVO X roughly a month ago. It came with 600 miles after they put 300 miles on it from driving it up for a dealer trade.
So the problem I'm having is that when I try to start from first gear at a red light or a full stop, the car seems to bog/hesistate sometimes... Maybe I'm not used to the car yet?

And after driving it for a while (normal driving) the car start to smell a bit weird..
It might be the brakes. I don't know. I can only smell it when I'm not moving.

My questions is, how do I figure out if my clutch is bad or not? Can you figure it out from how much you need to lift up the clutch pedal?
Or is it not possible because it's a hydraulic clutch? Any other way to figure it out?

So I went 20-25mph and then shift to 5th gear. The car stayed at around 1100 RPMs. So I assume the clutch isn't slipping? Since the RPMs didn't jump up any?
What's the verdict you guys would come up with?

probably not the clutch...

i'd guess it's a driver error (not trying to be funny) lol

practice alot with the car and let an experienced driver try and drive it without you telling him about any problems and see what he thinks

clutch has a very distinct smell and you will KNOW when it starts to slip, trust me

good luck

Definitely not the clutch. Try to engage first gear slower.. It should stop the bogging you are experiencing.

As for that smell.. I have no clue what that could be.

Like they say, you probably just need some more time behind the wheel of your new car to get used to the gear transitions.

It's reassuring to know it's probably not the clutch. Thanks for all the replies.
And yea I probably need more time with the car. It's my first AWD too, all the other cars I drove were FWD. They are probably different I assume.

Unless he's constantly revving it to 5k RPMs and slipping his clutch to engage first gear.. I highly that's where the smell is coming from. From what he was saying, it seems that he's not slipping the clutch enough to engage first gear smoothly.. He says the car bogs down.

Is it normal for the car to engage only when I have the clutch pedal more than half way up?
