the only MAJOR differance between the 2 is the MR is a 6spd with an aluminum roof, an RS has no ac, no power windows, aluminum roof, no wing, and some have no radio. Not all evo ix's have sunroof, evo ix's have a larger compressor housing and exhaust housing, acd and mivec compared to evo viii's

and a "GSR" is what you would call a "normal evo".

There is no difference in hp and sunroof is an option. The mr is a 6 speed though while the ix and rs are not, only 5 speed. I hope that answered your question.

6 spd is nice as DD (the MR), but get the GSR or RS if you are going to track it because 6 spd likes to blow at the track.

Other than that, edardnaekim summed it up good thought maybe a little jumbled

There are a few variations of the IX. RS is stripped out bare bones, but I believe SSL (Sun, Sound, Lights) is available, def available on GSR which is "normal" EVO. MR has aluminum hood, fenders, roof, and a 6 spd AND the Bilstien suspension. The GSR SE is basically an MR without the 6 spd and Bilstiens and it has the "diamond black" BBS wheels. The only thing that makes the MR SE unique is the wheels...I think...please correct me!

RS

GSR -> GSR SE

MR -> MR SE

no major HP difference, just cosmetic and transmission differences. i.e MR's have the gray BBS wheels with a vortex generator on the roof and HiD headlights with fogs and a 6 speed transmission and come with 3 mitsubishi gauges in the console below the climate control. Boost and two others i forgot which. a regular Evo is a GSR and comes with silver enkei rims. comes with no vortex generator and comes with regular halogen headlamps and no foglights, and also has a 5 speed transmission.

the ones with the sunroof have the SSL package and that was a dealer option at the time when the IX's were released, so not all have it. its basically a leather seat interior, with sunroof and an Infinity sound system with a subwoofer in the trunk and HiD headlamps with foglights.

there's your other two trims on an Evo...well one is just a semi-trim. cuz its more of a cosmetic thing.

i speak of an RS and the SE trims. the RS basically lacks power windows and power locks and sometimes no radio and i believe they still have an a/c. they also come with no spoiler as well and I THINK the RS has a helical differential im not too sure ask an RS owner. the RS also has black door handles no matter what color the car is. The SE is what i have and its basically an MR without the vortex generator on the roof and the 6 speed transmission. plus the SE comes with a front bumper lip that looks uber sexy unlike the ugly lips the GSR/MR's come with. also the SE's have the same style BBS rims as the MR but in a Diamond Black finish. also the interior seats have red stitching and the SE also has HiD headlamps and fogs

no horsepower difference what-so-ever. just cosmetic, transmission and weight difference

oh yea the suspension on the MR is different. It has the Bilstein shocks/struts and Eibach springs and the GSR/RS/SE come with the regular KYB Shocks/struts and i forgot what springs. and the MR and SE have aluminum roof

Just about everything you would want to know about the differences between years/models: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubi...ncer_Evolution
