My first AWD=]

Hey guys. Just picked up an 03 WW Evo today^^. Don't know if I got a good deal on it or not but I bought it for 17k with 55k miles on it. Everything came stock besides the cat back exhaust. Anyways, as an evo noob, what should be my first mod? I heard from the salesmen that I should buy a turbo timer cuz it's a t/c car. Is that really important? Guys please enlighten me.

Wow...

Yes to TT.
Change all your fluids... ASAP. Don't trust buying a Used EVO.

oh yea, run a quick search, i'm sure you'll find alot of threads on this same topic.

change all fluids = diff, t- case, engine, gearbox, coolant.

then do a full timing belt, water pump and tensioner change.

Don't let people tell you that you need a TT.

As long as you don't drive your car in boost going through your NEIGHBORHOOD and then cut it off, you'll be fine. Basically for the last 5 minutes of the ride just don't go into boost.

If your lazy like me, you can get a turbo timer for like $65 used with a harness.

I understand the need to change out all the fluids. Being a future buyer(less than a mont), Id like to know why those would need changed at 50K miles. Is it just good maintenance? Or are those prone to trouble that early on with the Evo?

I see you drive a DSM which also reccommends these components to be changed around 60k, might as well get all of that done now. Better safe than sorry.

Taken care of already. Just did them yesterday. Also about mods, so I've been reading and came to the conclusion that a Bov aint necessary and even if installed, provides more negativity than posivity? Or am I reading wrong? If its a good thing, can you guys please provide me with a good brand. Thank u so much.

Hey, its me again. Anyways, heres another question. When changing the oil for the rear differentials/ transfer case/ tranny, are you supposed to use the same oil? This is just for future reference. I read in many different forums and it seems that everyone has a different way of using the oils.

< for the transmission i used lucas 75w-90 synthetic gear oil, i think it was like 9.99 a quart. >
< for the transfer case i used the OEM Mitsubishi Diaqueen fluid i forgot the price but get it from the dealer >
< for the rear diff i used the same fluid as the transmission. >

i really wish i would have done it earlier. i used pennzoil syncromesh in the tranny, and royal purple 75w90 in the t-case and rear diff.
tranny shifts alot smoother, but it is still hard to get into 1st and 2nd when its cold.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Im really confused, so can someone please tell me what exactly are you supposed to use? Thanks

i have a turbo timer in my evo lol. and its cool for me whether im in boost or not its just smart to have one. you can do google search for why a turbo timer is important. now when i install my fp red taking no chances besides its freaking sick to watch peoples faces when i get out of my evo and leave to do something and the car is still running and they are like the car is still on bro. then i can say just watch and it cuts off then watch the amazement on there faces does not get old

i dont have OEM liquids avaliable to me.

As a result, i went with AMSoil throughout (i highly recommend it!):

NOTE: all volumes are based on a GSR Evo IX so it may change for an Evo VIII

Diff: Severe Gear Lube = approx 0.6 qts
T-Case: Severe Gear Lube = approx 0.6 qts
Gearbox: Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube = approx 2.6 qts

AMSoil for your Evo

Congrats on the car! I'd replace the timing belt since it's in that mileage window. As far as mods go, I've felt the VIII with CBE and TBE, and I think the o2 housing/dp, test pipe, and intake are a noticeable difference.

+1

I bought my 03 with 53k on it, and did the 60k tune up when it hit 57k. Congrats on the new purchase, sounds like you got a nice deal. Now get some pics up
