Evo what to choose??

hi in a couple of weeks im going to get my very first car. ive been thinking around and ive recently decided that i want an evo.

i want an old used evo maybe (evo 5-7?)
oh and another thing im not really knowledgeable about evos like if some of them are not manufactured here lol.

all i know is, is that i want a decent reasonable evo that is efficient, powerful, easy on the cash, and of course fun/ adequate.

which would you recommend?

thank you

first thing evo are made in japan not in the usa. so if you dont get a usdm evo that was already imported 2003-2006 or the new evo X then you will be importing a evo 5-7. There are some that are here for sale of course. As far as i know getting a evo 7 title is almost impossible unless you know somebody in the dmv. The last part of your statement

"decent reasonable evo that is efficient, powerful, easy on the cash, and of course fun/ adequate"

all evos if not trashed out of course are efficient, powerful(for stock) and fun/adequate. Now a evo is not cheap bro parts can get expensive and add up. Then if you dont do your own work can really really really hit the pocket book. Then there is the mod bug so expect to put some money into a evo to make it alittle fast or alot faster and appearance. so if you want "LIGHT ON THE POCKET BOOK" type cars then you better start looking at another car.

You've got to pay to play. Smoke the clutch, and that's $1000 to get replaced. Depending on how you drive it, that could mean once a year or once every 5+ years. Good sticky tires. depending on how you drive, last about 6 months, again depending, and there's another $800 after mount and balance.

Insurance on this car for a sinlge male inder 25 is going to be outrageous (I'm assuming)... Could be $300 to $500 a month depending.

It's not the most fuel efficient and it takes Premium only. Oil changes are synthetic only which is also not cheap... I'm just getting started -- and it goes on and on.

Well that's not too bad then. Guess it depends on where you live - I guess. I once got quoted like $300 a month for a V6 Camaro. Crazy!

Go get a 1990-92 Talon or a 1995 or 1999 Eclipse GSX.

If you find one in mint condition which isnt too hard these days for a decent price. I've seen mint cars under 2k. Purchase a few parts and you have a sub-11/12second car thats very reliable if you do things right.

Not to mention its a good way to get your feet wet in the modding world as well as learn how to handle a turbo vehicle without the high buy in price of an Evo.

im 18.

ok i get that owning an evo is high maintenance and obviously a lot of attention but excuse my asking, why do i have to keep upgrading an evo or making it better because thats what it seems like.

obviously as time passes by and if i want to upgrade my car i will but maybe i dont understand. do evos have to be constanly upgraded and maintained?
cant we just drive the evo for what it is?
im sorry i dont know lol.

thanks

If you've ever driven an EVO you'll understand why..modifications are just a plus...the car itself is great. BTW...they aren't that high maintainance.

the evo itself so far since i owned one since july has not let me down. just fixed the orginal owners mistakes and im off. Im just saying buying parts for this car can get alittle pricey. Now there is the thriving used market and as such can save you alot of cash believe me but i believer there are CERTAIN THINGS that i just would never buy second hand. A turbo is one of them. thats 1600-4500 right there. not to mention regular matience fluids brake pads plug is standard price as with all cars. the expensive thing about a evo like they said is modding it or when parts actually break again clutch is a good example 1k right there. lets not talk about TC cases lol. but just know what your getting into before you step in the evo game. To answer to above question about why cant you just drive it to drive it. One if you buying one seriously then you dont buy it to keep it stock. Two in some cases like mine things broke like i change my coolant and my radiator hoses and broke the nozzle on the radaitor causing a nice little leak why would i go back and buy another plastic crap radaitor OEM i went after market got a better one same with my exhaust system the cat was not even bolt on properly(last owner) causing a nasty little leak so i just replaced it with a better TBE and test pipe. SO you get the since im there i might as well uprade the downpipe since im there im might as well get better hoses since i had to remove the upper ic pipping to change the hoses i might as well get a better upper ic. well i replaced the upper and it usually comes with a licp as well might as well change that. And so on next thing you know you caught the mod bug whether you ment to or not like myself and again even if if you dont want to mod it if something breaks dont replace it with factory parts so they can break again you get better parts

Upgrades aren't needed on these cars unless you are trying to either keep up with the "Jones's" or you are a performance nut like most of us here. At the most you probably would need to replace the clutch or something to that affect if you bought a used Evo. Other than that just drive the car as it is.........but we know that we'll see you again......mwhahaha..
