im gonna be on streets, freeways, with tbe, 272s, intake, ic and pipes, 24 psi and daily driven. NEVER tracked or drag raced, maybe a launch here and there. would that be ok. just trying to help. lol

Good Luck with it! I broke mine in 4th gear it had nothing to do with launching it. I was just accelerating onto the highway.

what do you do with your car though, im thinking NO track time, or drag, and like 350 to 380 at the wheels tops. daily driven

this is a good read to make your decision. either way, 6 speed vs 5 speed it is a toss up. the 6 speed is more expensive, is used in the FQ360, FQ400. it is what you want.

well no one has posted for a while, but I'm gonna anyway. Regardless if you have the 5 spd or the 6 spd, with 450 hp with either you are going to run into problems.

You're not going to break the 6-speed doing canyon runs. You most likely won't break it drag racing either unless you're planning on running more than 500-600 whp.

Truth be told, you probably won't even break it road racing. For how many guys road race with the 6-speed, the number of failures is TINY. They are just very vocal about it and with how cheap the 5-speeds are used, the consensus on these boards is to just get the stronger 5-speed to begin with. Nothing wrong with that. If you're planning on using it like a race car, get the 5-speed.

Don't believe those who make the 6-speed sound like it's made of glass, though. If you're planning on driving the car every day (especially if you do a lot of highway commuting) with occasional drag racing/road racing/autocross/canyons/whatever, the 6-speed might be better for you. I have no regrets about mine. 50,000 miles going strong. At the moment with almost 400 whp on a Mustang Dyno. They're not made of glass.

but what if you do not play on doing any serious mods to it? if you get a mr and maybe have an intake, tbe, bov, maybe upper and lower piping maybe a little more... mostly daily driven, never on the track, would you be ok with the 6 speed? i mean your not gonna break it when you just get on it here and there are you?

go for the 5speed

I've got a 2006 MR with a 6 speed, first 6 speed i broke it after a track day with 350hp, when i opened the gearbox it was full of broken pieces and ****, second one anotther 6 speed i broke the axle betwenn the gearbox and the transfer box, wich lead to cracked transfer box case, a broken front diff, a broken diff ... this time i had about 450hp, i broked it the 2nd time i launched it at a drag, at about 5500rpm... no more 6 speed for me. I also have an european evo 9 wich has a 5speed RS gearbox from an evo 7 RS, wich is totaly different, from any point of view, BETTER, it feels much stronger, it feeels like a real gearbox!! the 6 speed after you trash it a little bit it ovearheats and it wouldn't work p[roperly... i have used REDLINE oil in both ones. The 5 speed is the one to go if you want it for track days, ocasionally drag race and **** like that.
