IX MR or X

I found a IX MR with a few mods (looks to be done right) with 17k miles for $23000 or I could get a X with 8k for around $29000. My wife likes the IX I'm not sure witch one I like. Can you guys help?

i mean what are we talking about here 9k miles difference and 6k in price. Put it this way you can take that 6k and put it back into the evo 9 mr and get some really nice and tasty mods. you could also get the tranny built or swapped with the 5speed with that left over money. So you dont have to worry about the MR nightmare tranny issues. So you decided and look at it like that. With the X you will be starting from scratch and LESS LIKELYHOOD of the car has been modded like the evo 9 MR. You are also starting with a new platform and engine as well. So those are the pros and cons of each. ME PERSONALLY........................................ .........................(if i was married or had a serious GF) I would get what the wife likes and wants otherwise might be alot of tension and fighting later on down the line keep the wife happy and you will be happy.

EVO 9 MR FTW!!!!!!!

p.s i still love the evo 8 better

i wouldn't even consider the X given that for a little more you could have a brand new one. now you're looking at two completely different price ranges. (i.e., low 20s or low 30s). that should help you choose (a brand new X or a IX with a few miles and mods).

I'd pick a IX, but that's just me.

What's important to you? Tell us more and we can help you better. Either car will be great and I'm sure you'll be happy. The IX and X are similar, yet different in many ways. It really depends on what you want.

I wouldnt worry about replacing the tranny right away- unless you plan on lots of road course driving it should hold up alright. See how well it shifts into/out of 6th gear before you purchase though.

Holy ****, this ****ing stigma on the 6-speed tranny in the MR is getting really old. I drive the daylights out of my car in more ways than some people, I'm sure. I have not had a single issue with my tranny. Just make sure you know how to drive your car and pay a decent amount of attention to track heat management. TRACK being the operative word. For the love of God, the 6-speed tranny is NOT GLASS!!

On my search I was looking for a low mileage IX (SE or MR) at a decent price. I didn't think I'd ever find one that wasn't priced close to a new X so I was all set on getting a X towards the end of this year. I had pretty much given up on a IX but one day I was searching and found a low mileage MR for sale that met my criteria (low miles, stockage, realistic price, white, red, or gg in color). Bonus was that it was local so I could look at the car even though I was okay with traveling for a good car.

The pros and cons for me were:

IX -
Cons: Used, possibly not maintained well, most priced too high.
Pros: Lighter, proven engine, bigger trunk, looks aggressive

X -
Cons: Small trunk, new engine design, gas mileage, 1st year bugs, heavy
Pros: Looks aggressive and sophisticated at same time, improved AWD, 0% fin

Either way I would have been happy with either; but if buying new I proabably would have bought a 2010 model.

In the end I saved at least 9k on the price finding a IX MR.

The reason i said rebuild the tranny now or replace with a 5 speed is you have the money now might as well do it while the funds are there. I do get your point dont spend the money if you dont have to type deal. Also if he is just using it a a DD and not tracking or draging it or roadracing(which you should not do ) etc then a tranny rebuilt might be alittle extreme but im talking about prevenative matience is all. Besides again you have the money now just do it and get it over with. Why do you think i have a fp red but still not installed lol. I got a stupid deal for one and really and truely did not need a turbo but the deal was good and i had the money so might as well. But yea see how it shifts and feels and it its ready to rock spend the money on something else just keep a eye on it

Look over that IX really well, check the tranny as was suggested. $1500 in mods will get you to 320 hp/ 320 lb. ft. torque. Take good care of it and you will have an amazing ride.
