suggestions please on turbo back exhaust

im thinking about getting a turbo back exhaust in order to goto stage 2 on my cobb

i'm not looking to spend too much money.. i was thinking of the new megan type 2 cat back cuz i love the black stealthy look..

and then adding a downpipe/testpipe combo like the one from invidia..

this is pretty inexpensive solution to get a tbe.. around 600.. but i worry about fitment issues joining two brands

or should i go for a full tbe solution from a company like perrin

what other brands are out there that are relatively inexpensive

If price is your biggest concern, Megan, Ultimate Racing, and Cobb parts are relatively cheap. A single exit exhaust is also a bit cheaper than a dual. I usually go with better known quality brands just because I know they will fit correctly and not rattle and burn holes through the ACD like some did on the IX. As far as mixing and matching, as long as each part you select will bolt up to the stock system, you shouldn't have any issues. Even if piping sizes are different, 3" system can still bolt up properly to 2.5" pipes, etc...

I do think though that the Megan dual looks pretty good for the money. Then you could get their downpipe and use a cheap test pipe. Or get a cheap downpipe and test pipe and spend a little more on a catback that may sound, fit, or look better. ??? It's really all up to you. Do a search on each system you're interested in.

Save money, no fitting issues: Go to a custom exhaust shop and have one built!

A friend here offered to do a catback for me for my car (normally 800ish for the STis, since the cats are built up right into the downpipe, so it's a lot of piping) for 400ish.

If all else fails and you do have fitting issues though, a custom exhaust shop can fix that part for you pretty easily.

This would be my choice; however, $1300 is what they are asking. You should be able to put a TBE exhaust together for less than that. The Perrin DP with cat is $539.

i've been a fan of the cp-e catback for some time, but i recently discovered the price of the megan. i think i will be getting a megan dual tip catback for 380ish and piece together a downpipe/test pipe. there are 2 videos of the megan dual tip on streetfire, search "evo x megan racing" sounds pretty mean...and so does the price

I just got an Ultimate Racing TBE w/ HFC (Dual), and it sounds mean as hell... not to mention all of the extra power! Was almost $2k (CDN) installed, but well worth it!

i would be worried about going cheap on the exhaust, especially if its a daily driver.

+1

I'm waiting until I can afford the AMS TBE with the dual tip. If I've learned anything with past projects it's get fewer better quality parts vs. more cheaper parts. It really pays in the long run.

megan stuff aren't exactly the greatest in the world...actually, everything i've purchased from them had always been subpar. they're good for the price i suppose, but bang for the buck, probably not the best.

like someone said, perrin's downpipe-exhaust kit is actually a good price. you get quality and value for your dollar. plus you don't have to go to the o2 housing like most downpipe kits, so it will save you time as well.

after thinking about it, i think i might just get the cp-e catback i like, and piece together a downpipe and test pipe. I know there are some highly rated downpipes and such, but i'm not trying to drop $600+ on a couple small pieces of pipe. i think that might be a good way to go. get a decent $600 catback, and spend another 300ish on a downpipe and test pipe.

well, test pipe is, to be honest, just a straight 3" pipe with a spaced o2 bung. you can get it done at any muffler shop on the cheap.
