I would like to apologize for my noobiness before asking these questions. I never bought car myself before so hopefully I get some help

When you buy a car from dealership, what do you need to pay upfront before picking up car other than the down payment? Do you need to pay the tax upfront?

Also from these forums, it seems like many people have problem with stock clutch going out around 15-20k miles? So would changing clutch be under warranty still if it goes out by 15-20k miles? Or do people get stage 2 clutch?

Last question would be about mud flaps. Do mitsubishi mud flaps actually work well for protecting paints? Or is it better to get rally armor mud flaps?

All costs for a new car can be fully financed, including tax. It is the perfect time to buy right now if you are looking into a new Evo X. Are you in California now? Great deals can be had here... ranging from $5,000 to $8,000 off MSRP combined with 0% APR (no interest) if your credit score is above 700 or so. I didn't put any downpayment for mine at Serramonte Mitsubishi, $8K off with no interest. It's basically a steal, not sure how many they have left.

I wouldn't worry about the clutch unless you like launching the car or bring it to the racetrack on a regular basis. There are people who have driven their EvoXs 30K miles or more on stock clutch and never had a problem. Just depends how you treat your car.

Good luck!

You don't have to pay taxes/fees up front, it can be financed if you want. You don't have to have a down payment either. If you pay nothing up front you will be paying more in interest later. Do NOT pay MSRP for the car. KBB, NADA, and Edmunds can help you establish a decent price for the vehicle. Also check to see if there are any local specials. Shop around at a couple dealerships and see which one(s) seem to have the best price/service. Clutch depends on your mods and how you drive. If you fry it, warranty is most likely not going to cover it.

as the guys have mentioned, now is actually a great time to buy an X. across the country, people are picking up new X's easily at $8k under MSRP, some even lower, depending on location, and other circumstances.....

and yes, u do not have to leave anything up front, in fact, it is almost always better to not put any money down, and rather finance every penny u can (assuming a low APR)... and, that is ESP true now, what with the 0% APR...

and no, u do not have to worry about the clutch, it can go many many miles, unless, as mentioned, u launch the car every other day..
