I didn't get the 9 for a couple of reason. 1.I was planning on going bigger turbo so diecided to save the extra money that I would of wasted getting the 9 on the evo 8. 2. Not a fan of mivec.(Honda guy's and there vtec.)

I like the IX bolt on for bolt on it will def make more power. However once you jump to a bigger turbo the playing field is even.

I bought an 03. I didnt want the ACD just a good front limited slip works very nicely.

To be honest personaly I perfer the VIII bumper to the IX :lol

I have my VIII and i will say that i am happy with it (4 Years). The VIII has a real carbon fiber spoiler.

While I noticed you said you would like to use the Evo for drag racing and rallying (presumably both in sanctioned events), the IX would be the better choice, especially if it's going to be your street-driven daily-driver as well. Obviously it's a matter of taste, but I just like a lot of the IX's visual distinctions over the VIII (cleaner front end, smoked headlights and taillights, black and gray interior, all-black steering wheel, better styled standard Enkeis, etc.). Also, the MIVEC makes daily driving a little more pleasant since it helps spice up the bottom end of the rev-range, making it a tad punchier in the range that you'll typically be in during your regular commute.

Good statement. The IX responds much better to tunes and most bolt-ons compared to the VIII and can reach the same hp and torque targets (within reason) with fewer parts and, ultimately, less money. Though like the above poster said, once you yank out the turbo, the difference isn't really something to consider at that point.

ACD really isn't a huge deal like you said, I can't really tell if it's working better than the viscous unit in the '03 and '04 VIIIs did. The only time I ever switch modes is in the rain (since that's the worst you'll see in the majority of Southern California), and even then I can't even really sense too much of a difference.

Well, as it has been said before, the playing field is pretty even when you start yanking out turbos or going for record-breaking passes. There isn't a huge reason to spend a few more grand on a newer IX if you're going to rip apart the engine and rebuild it anyway. Also, the VIII has obviously been around for much longer, so most of the big shops have had theirs for a while and been working on them since. No point in just ditching it for the IX because it has MIVEC which, at their level of modding, wouldn't make a significant difference.

The IX has a real carbon fiber spoiler too. It's just that the supports aren't made of carbon fiber, which isn't really a huge deal.

I wouldn't say mivec is garbage. it definately does not hurt the performance in anyway if anything it helps a little although not much. so garbage may not be the word. But is it necessary? no. in terms of what you should look at? it depends on what you prefer interior wise/out. and i generally like the IX interior/outside better. my 2 cents. and goodluck with the search! They are both great cars and you will not go wrong with either one.
