First thread here in over 3 years. Thinking of getting an X

I became a member on this forum back in 06 I believe. I was in the market for a evo bc I wanted something with 4 doors and room but potential being that the 4g63 motor had been around for 20 years, it was safe to say much r and d had been done. It was common to see evos close to 450-500hp with not alot of work done.

I'm in the market for the GSR since I want manual. MR would be nice but it being an "auto" along with no aftermarket support for the clutches upgrade (its tq limit being 360 at the fly) I know with out a doubt I will be higher than this.

Has anyone found the hp limit of the block or stock clutch yet? No I wont be doing no stoplight launches.

this is what I'm concerned with:

****tires kicking up rocker panel and side skirts. (seem mud flaps helps out, but doesnt cure it..anything else that does?

*****Seats falling apart and fading (found the fix to the staple showing issue)

*****Tranny is notchy..but its a sports car my Acura does it when cold

*****but what i'm most concerned with is the reliability of Mitsubishi...

Also if there is any other issues please let me know.

Mitsu use to not have the greatest reputation.....actually they didn't have but a horrible reputation at that. I have a Honda now, we know keep the fluids change and it will run forever plus you could beat the hell out of it and nto really have to worry about it. I only drive my toys on the weekends to start with but at times I do drive them hard but 90% of the time I drive like a grandma.

Thanks guys for taken the time to read and answer my questions

1. aero kit does a good job, i have it and don't have problems with chipping like everyone else. the mudflaps will be cheaper, or you can also look into clear bra for that area

2. i don't think everyone has this problem, i don't think i do.

3. from what people have said the later production x's seem to shift better than the first production ones. mine has a build date of 4/08, mine is a bit notchy but clears up when warm, i also have works ssk, base bushings, ams shifter cable bushings. so it's not a stock shifter setup. but i never have had any grinding issues.

4. i had my old 9mr for 2 years, about 23k miles, all i ever did was change the oil, changed the diff/tranny/tc one and the car never gave me any problems. and i did not drive the car gently. as long as you don't launch the car 10 times in a row, everyday the car will be fine. i never launched my old 9 but still drove it pretty hard

I've owned both an Evo 9 and X and never had problems with either of them. Most issues with the X are relatively small for the first model year of a new car. Ryan Gates(BlackTrack on here) has put over 8K miles ON THE TRACK at over 450whp and he's had no issues either.

Mitsubishi quality is on par if not better than most, it ranks 11th out of all car manufacturers for quality! I don't know where all you guys come up with the "reliability issues or rumors"? I've owned 3 lancers and have had not one issue rather than the aero kit on the passenger side of my X GSR. My father owns an endeavor and has zero problems as well as three of my friends who own Galants, not to mention one of my friends own a 99 eclipse with no issues as well.

For crying out loud you can't kill a Mitsubishi Mighty Max, I still see many mirages, old school Galants, Dimante's, Expo's, Montero's and colts on the road today. I'm speaking from experience here, as I've owned many; not just one. My 1994 Mustang blew head gaskets at 87k and my 1999 Cougar's automatic transmission was slipping at 76k and my Dad's 2004 F-150 automatic transmission was slipping and had to be replaced at 56k. Needless to say I've yet to have an issue with my car rather than cosmetic's.

P.S. What about all those old Toyota's you see going down the road with the clear coat totally gone? Or the rust bucket of a Honda called the CRX? Every manufacturer has their issues.
