should I buy this evo?

Hi guys,

I am new and was wanting to buy an evo. There is an evo for 20k and it is a white 2005 EVO VIII SSL with 33k miles. There are no mods and is completely stock.

After viewing some of the cars for sale on this message board, I am learning that the car I am looking at SHOULD be selling for around 17k-18k, is that correct?

I threw the owners an offer of 18k and seeing if they will accept it.

What do you guys think?

I also live in Hawaii, so cars sell for more here, than the mainland.

Thanks!

Just make sure it wasn't modded and put back to stock if you're looking for a truly stock car.

If it wasn't modded and has been stock for 33k miles, take the deal and run! lol.

Btw, I paid $18k for a nearly stock 2004 Evo VIII GSR SSL with 25k miles. $19k is a decent price for an 05.

I paid 19.2 for an 05 with 55K on it. (two weeks ago)

And it had $5000 in tasteful mods. Defi Guages, BR exhaust, BR trans, act clutch, halman boost, HKS intake, HKS bov recirc'd, plowerslot brakes, 255 fuel pump, flash kinda ****ty, speakers are upgraded as well alpines.

thanks guys. i will be checking out the car in a couple of hours. If she brings it down to 19k, i might get it. However, i've been noticing with the evos, you have to pretty much change alot of things no matter what (clutch, transfer case, etc..) What's the deal? Evos not built so great?

Well I checked it out. It was nice and all; No dents, no scratches, just acouple of knicks in the paint. The carbon fiber spoiler has a line on the top of the spoiler from opening the trunk and it rubbing on the antenna; that was lame. I liked the moonroof and how it retracts all the way.

However, I just don't know. I wasn't too impressed with it and am not pooping my pants with excitement on purchasing it. I got to test drive it and i felt the power. It has nice torque and felt like it pulled strong. The guy was telling me i probably need to change the rear rotars and brakes because they are about 50% worn down. And the brake calipers in the front were faded (wasn't too happy about that).

Anyways, I guess I'll think about it for a few days. They still want 20k....

If it's not what you want don't buy it. The cars can get pricey to maintain and if you don't maintain it. It'll even cost you more.

As for the brakes VIII's are notorious for that. You can fix it yourself for the cost of a spray can and some tape

Do the IXs have notorious problems like the VIIIs?

Clutch still blows *** is in all the evo's. You are still getting an awesome deal for the car. They should sell for 22k-23k. The only reason some people are selling the cars for cheaper because of the economy and people don't want a gas guzzler! 20K for that low miles I would buy that in a heart beat!!!

yea if that car is truely stock then it is worth it. they have their common problems but especially if u can do small projects urself u will save money. re-paint the calipers urself. change the brakes urself. have somebody do a clutch eventually if ur stock on fails. only will fail if you mod it or can't drive. the stock clutch on the car stock with a person who can drive a standard will last a while. but who leaves a evo stock?????
