And Another...
I have an 03 Lancer OZ, which is good for getting me used to the interior of the Evo VIII/IX I plan on getting next summer :P
You'll want something with a manual tranny of course, to learn to drive stick. a civic should be a good choice as well, I just didn't want one because I see about 74 of em at every street corner

If you can get an Evo just get it...why do you care what other people have to say? Its the internet, dont take it too seriously. You may or may not crash it, but who cares, its your(parents) money and you do what you want with it.
leave him alone, he can post threads if he wants, he has a lagit question. don't let them talk you out of an evo, just know there really fast and can get you in trouble in a hurry. I wouldn't get it for my first car but its your money so its up to you. Something that would get you ready for one is a civic, cheap so you can practice driving a manual and if you break something its not terribly expensive. Good luck

But really it doesn't matter what car you get, just get used to driving on the road for a while and most of all get used to interacting with other drivers. Driving a car is easy, but having an idea of what all the other idiots on the road are doing is whats hard.
Once you get some time on the road, then go ahead, get an Evo or whatever you like. Hell i started out with my mom's old volvo 850 turbo
then i got an 03 Evo last year and i love it. I'd like to think after all these year (i'm 23 now) i've become a better driver.
Just get comfortable on the road, then add a bit of fun

Get what you want. Don't get something else and be disappointed. Just be safe on the road!
I wish I could've had an evo for a first car. I had a 76 VW bus that need someone to turn the key, while I got underneath the car and connected the ignition line with a screwdriver to start it up...

actually
just get what u want
but try to set a limit for yourself and dont break it and u will be fine
its all about discipline
if u really wanted that evo
go get it
but just remember
the feeling of accident is not a gd feeling
u wont want to experience it
trust me
u really dont want to experience it
lets say set a limit on yourself
not going above 5k rpm for the first half a year or so
then slowly increase it
that would be great to practice some self-restrain

Anything manual transmission, not turbo, etc. You want bare bones because chances are especially if your new to driving, it will be in a fender bender at least once. Best of luck to you.
I think by now you have a lot of info and from what people have been telling what their ideas are however, you make the decision. You want an EVO? Get it then and remember what we've told ya, take it easy!

Props, though kid. It seems that you are starting to get the hint from everyone. These are cars that you need to have good experience behind the wheel with for you to safely enjoy them. Since your so set on getting an Evo, go for something that is still AWD/turbo so you can get used to the way they handle. Every car is different, but still try to stick with AWD. I agree, try and go for a WRX.
omg not another one again.... just give it up
