RRM Test Pipe...really confused

So i swear everywhere i read says the Lancer has 2 Cats....but does the one test pipe remove both of them???

If it only removes one..wouldn't u still have the other one and be able to drive around legally??

Just really confused.

Thanks

Yes, the Lancer has two cats, the one that the testpipe removes is for the Second cat located in the exhaust after the downpipe. The first one is in the stock manifold and can be removed only by getting any aftermarket headers, RRM, kamikaze..etc. I dont know about emissions cuz we dont have tests here anymore, but I doubt you will pass even with 1 cat.

You will not pass smog without the 2nd cat. You have to keep both to drive legally. The 2nd cat. eliminates most of the gasses that create smog.

Unless you move to Florida, where they have no emissions testing and you can run straight out the block if you wanted to, but of course, they do have sound laws instead!

You don't need both to pass emissions, though California has completely different standards than most of the US.

if you get a catback it will eliminate one of the catalytic converters.

a catback is just that-- catback, it bolts to the cat and replaces the
rear exhaust section.

That's not true, catback does more than improve sound...greddy system for example, piping from the cat BACK which does not replace the 2nd cat has 2 and a quarter inch piping which is designed for high flow in turbo applications. it just so happens that greddy has lowered their decible level to avoid the "rice" sound that you hear on some cars, not to mention it meets sound ordinance levels, that is w/ 2 cats tho. if you want sound, get a muffler(axelback), if you want performance start with a cat back or a muffler with custom piping.
