If I understand your question ....

The difference is how many pieces the part comes in. If all things are equal both two and three or even 10 piece catbacks will make the same power. The decision to make it in two or three pieces is based on two things on the manufacturing side.

1) Cost to make. This will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. A three piece catback will have more flanges and hardware and usually more welding, all those add cost. A two piece catback will have less of the above but it can cost more to have a longer pipe bent to shape.

2) Shipping costs. A three piece exhaust will most likely be cheaper to ship than a longer two piece exhaust.
