Common Evo VIII/IX problem areas?

Anybody know of any common problem areas in particular to watch out for when buying a used Evo VIII or IX? Talking about stock Evos--or those that are advertised as "stock."

Thanks.

If you're buying a stock Evo make sure its always been stock and not returned to stock. Its like buying any other car though, make sure its been well maintained, drives well, engines revs smoothly, drivetrain doesn't make excessive noise, transmission shifts smoothly, clutch engages firmly, etc. You can learn a lot about how a car was treated just by talking with the owner, judging his/her personality, and taking a peek around his/her garage.

Check the engine to see if it looks like parts have been recently installed (tool marks on bolts, freshly installed gaskets, etc.) I also like to look under the driver side dash to see what the wiring looks like. Often times if they had gauges installed, you'll see evidence in the wiring harnesses. Also, take a look at the ECU wiring harness and check to see if there are slices etc. more evidence that the car was modified.

But like mentioned, you will learn the most just from talking to the owner. They should just be honest with everything done to the car. I just bought a used 06 IX and the owner told me everything he had done (larger IC, tuned) and also that the car still had the stock clutch that would need to be replaced soon.
