Open Discussion Regarding the Current Evo Market

Hi Everyone,
I am prospective Evo buyer who was hoping to get a little feedback from both the people who have recently sold their Evos as well as the people who have recently purchased one. (from sources outside of evolutionm) Basically I'm just trying to get a better feel for what these cars are actually selling for, rather than their perceived value. While the "What's my car worth" thread is a pretty good resource, it seems like a great deal of people posting there are either sellers themselves or people who are not in a position to actually buy a car and thus contribute meaningless numbers. Can anyone with real experience shed a little light on this?

06 MR pretty much bone stock (maybe $1000 in upgrades mostly suspension) 33k miles - I picked it up for $21,000 and feel like I got an excellent deal and it was pretty much below market value.

definitely seems like an excellent deal, especially given some of the asking prices that are frequently seen.

Dawn, when you were shopping for your evo were you looking for stock cars or were you looking for ones with mods already in place? Did mods make a car worth more, less, or have no effect in your eyes? (as a buyer)

I wanted something pretty much bone stock so I knew it wasn't ragged on (or at least it had a higher chance to have not been ragged on) and also so I could take my own upgrade path and do it right in terms of parts and installation. That being said, if you offered me two identical cars - only one had a turbo kit and the other was stock, at the same price - i'd take the stock one. So, mods would lessen the value for me personally.

The guy I bought it from had everything documented and put in writing the car was never abused / raced etc. Definitely very happy.

A clean evo IX could probably be had for $20k at a fair price. Some people may get desperate and sell it sooner, but I dont know of any other car like it that you can get for that price. Considering most of them are still under warranty, and fairly rare.

this seems to be the consensus for just about everyone who is buying evos, but it seems like a concept that is lost on most people selling them. nobody wants to pay to fix someone else's mistakes.

honestly, when i was looking, I wanted one that was stock.
Then i found mine and was a little higher mileage and pretty heavily modded, but I couldnt pass the deal up cuz I would have modded it anyway.

My car had an FP Green and all supporting mods and I paid $20k
I got brand new snow tires extra and a bunch of stock parts too.
not to say I didnt improve on things and fix a few minor things, but I think I got a decent deal

depends on what your looking for if mods decrease the value of the car in your eyes. if the seller wants X amount of money and you feel it might be raced dogged out etc then its your choice as a buyer how much your willing to pay and either meet at a happy medium or move on. Just because the car is heavily modded does not always mean they were ******* the car out every chance they got and wanted to run everybody around them. did you ever stop to think some of us mod the car because they have to. example my motor has a bad valve now and probaly scratched cyclinder walls. nothing i did tip of spark plug broke off so im just replaceing the whole motor with a fully built head and slow boy racing 2.0 racing shortblock stage 2 yet i dont go to the track and i drive 5 miles a day if even might as well since i have to pull it out. so buying a modded car is not always completely bad but i have seen some ragged out evos. Majority of evos are modded in some way shape or form
