Evo IX MR vs Evo X MR
the weight is the problem with the X. it's heavier than my 300zx Twin turbo.
on the stock turbo's with all the bolton goodies both the 9 and 10 will make about the same to the ground. however the 9 will be faster because it's 400lbs lighter.
X is easier the live with. 9 is if you don't mind all the extra electronic's.
i'd take the 9. it's much cheaper, faster when modded.
screw the sstt or w/e. there will be days when you want an auto and days when you want a stick. but the days you want a stick will be very rewarding haha.
personally im on the fence whether or not to get an Evo or a Skyline.
i just can't decide what i want to do.

yay, another uninformed person entering the debate with more lack of knowledge.
No.. the X can be tuned for more power bolt-on for bolt-on. Just a tune out of the box the X can get 60-80whp no mods! Not to mention the X MR is faster than the IX MR on track stock for stock. And the OP said he doesn't plan to mod his car.
Care to prove that it's faster when modded? Not one IX could hold a candle to Gates in his X for the last two years.
Sounds like you're speaking from your own perspective. SST is the future, like it or not. Run the SST in super-sport mode with paddles on a track, there is no stick that will come close no matter how good the driver is. I never run my car in auto, there is no fun in that. Not to mention I don't think the car should control my shifting points ever.
You're totally entitled to your opinion on the SST, but I have a strong feeling you haven't driven one spirited at all.
I also know no one has proven a IX bolt-on to bolt-on is faster than a X. AYC isn't something to be taken lightly. It makes up for that 250lbs (fully loaded IX MR vs fully loaded X MR). Not 400lbs.

I personally HPDE/Auto-X a LOT more than I take my car to the 1/4 mile, but a lot of the Evo folk still love the strip.
So, if you're coming from THAT angle, yeah, the X is bad.
It depends what your goal is. I have an X, I love my X, and like it a lot more than my 8, except when I take it to the strip. If you're into 1/4 mile runs, the X is a big, fat moo-cow car, where the electronic gizmos and ASC and AYC and Japanese shogun technology mean absolutely dick all. The fastest X is, what, 10 second something? Compare that to all the Evo 8 and 9 times, and, well, it looks like crap.

I still haven't seen a X MR take a IX MR stock for stock in any sort of 1v1 test.
And were there even any IXs that were in a direct competition with Gates Evo X? Which, that car is sick btw - acid dipped chassis and all sorts of crazy stuff like that.. No IX I know of in the last couple years has had work done like that.. The only time the two chassis were in direct competition was back in 2008 or so. IX is old news, tuners aren't going to keep focusing on the old chassis.. that's not where the money is
ps.. pretty obvious where this thread is about to get merged to lol

But as far as comparisons... I think it's time people stop making false accusations (like the poster did above), and start putting their cars where their mouth is. Do a 1 vs 1. Two drivers. Slalom, braking, skid pad, and time attack. Both drivers drive both cars. They list their pros and cons of what they liked / disliked about them and we end this debate / discussion once and for all. What are we going to find? Probably that the cars are extremely similar in performance. That all it boils down to is whether you like the looks or the ride.
This debate is getting so tiresome... mainly because of the accusations about one or the other car coming from people that A) haven't driven both B) someone that can't afford a X (I see this one a lot) C) someone that is in a specific situation. Most people don't have the ability to look at a problem through others eyes. I've recommended getting a IX (or VIII) to people over a X because it's fit their needs more (price, drag strip, starter tuner car, etc). I don't know, just really tired of us all going off on each other when we're all
fans and should be supporting each other regardless. I find myself calling out CT4A fanbois more often than not.
is in a world of hurt right now with sales (down 50% from last year), and if we all don't stick together (including ralliarts, lancers, eclipses, etc) there might not be a
to do any more engineering.

I totally agree with you migs -
owners need to start sticking together rather than bashing others who don't think the same way they do. At the end of the day we're all
fans and we're all on the same team.
Brik - Thank you for desmonstrating Migs' point. I hope you were being sarcastic.

If you look at fastestlaps (or whatever the site was that I sent you to), there was a few comparisons of IXs and Xs (both stock). Yes Gates ran against other Evos... not sure if they were IXs, VIIIs or both, but they were there. I've definitely seen the same thing done to VIIIs and IXs that was done to Gates car. Especially around here. There are quite a few time attack evos around. One is 10 blocks away and is around 650whp (e85, 2.2, etc).

I have an IX MR. It's fast, it handles well, and I prefer the look of it to the X. Having said that, keep in mind the warranty you get if you get the X. That piece of mind is def worth something over the headaches you can inherit by buying a used IX. Your decision should be based on your gut feeling after driving each of the cars, what your budget is, and what your modding plans are or arent once you have the car.
Both cars are win.
Both cars are win.
What false accusations? and are you talking about the mod class? cuz there were maybe one or two other ct9a cars that were as built and well done as gate's car.. the rest werent even close... modified is a fairly "big" class in terms of range of mods.. none of which even ran consistently in the series
Everything else you say, I totally agree with

I'm not talking about the whole series, i'm talking about each individual race. Gates' car isn't THAT BUILT. Stock engine internals. FP Red, and obviously the other stuff. But most notable is the stock engine internals. Yah the modified class can be debated all day long, that wasn't the intention of bringing it up. The intent was to point out that the X isn't a slouch and as far as competition goes, it's about all we have (locally) to go off of for CZ4A vs CT4A.
Again, I'm not calling you out kyooch, you've been extremely reasonable in these threads. It's the other idiots that spout off at the mouth without even driving a X.
What false accusations? Are you kidding me? That's all these threads ever turn into (and i'm not talking about you). I'm talking about people saying the IX is way faster (or visa versa). I'm talking about people that speak from perspective vs facts and hard data. People that come in and claim that the IX (or X) is better because they said so. I'd say about 75% of all suggestions are from perspective. People constantly prove this... A) they don't give any data B) when they are asked to prove it they whither away. I went through it myself to be honest. I was in a decently built VIII and told everyone there was NO WAY IN HELL i was going to get a X. I loved my car, and part of me dismissing the X was because of how blinded I was by my own car. I was kidding myself, once I got in a X I was so blown away I had to get one. Now that fits my needs, may not fit other needs. But the point is, I was there... I couldn't afford a X at the time, I liked my car a lot, and felt the X wasn't even close in terms of performance because of the #s and constant bashing that goes on.

Gate's car is great, especially with the 4b11 being stock internals - unquestionably an overall better engine. The chassis and suspension upgrades were pretty sick though, and he's said that Cusco 1.5 way he's got in the back eliminated ALL understeer the car used to have once he started making bigger power.
The difference between the cars at the end of the day in terms of speed is honestly overall small. I know the X was a huge leap, esp after the 03 VIII (open diffs, viscous center or w/e i think, i dont even know, not that familiar with the VIII) Either way man, I agree w/ u for sure - just a misunderstanding on what u were saying about false accusations
(a little off topic) Yah the 03 VIII had an open in the front and a helix (spelling?) in the rear. I upgraded my front. Definitely helped. I also had under braces, rear strut bar, sway bar. I put a lot of love into that thing... Also upgraded the transmission to an 05 transmission, and the transfer case was mostly a IX t.case w/o the ACD.
