Checking out evos, ran into a rusty one.

So I'm currently in the market for an evo 9 and I've been checking out some evos around my area/ looking at ads, very typical stuff and I ran across this ad on autotrader.

Used Apex Silver 2006 with only 27,032 miles for $26,888. So I thought it might be worth a look, though 26,888 did sound a bit high when compared to the evo worth mega thread. It was looking good till I saw this pic

Carfax says that its was sold in Sac, and made it's way down to the Bay Area but seriously what would cause that kind of rust? I'm checking the car a few others out later this week and I'm hoping its just the cover but I doubt it. Have any of you guys seen this before?

ouch...carfax doesn't tell you anything just pieces to the story. if it doesn't go through the dmv, chances are it won't show up.

That is what you'd expect on the exhaust manifold heatshield when there is a gaping hole in the hood for venting hot air. When it rains/washing car, that is the result. Mine is rusty as well although not as bad.

The old owner probably removed the louvered panel in the hood for a while, then put it back when he saw some rust.

I wouldn't worry about an bolt on exhaust shield being rusty. Body rust on the other hand is cause for concern..

Hopefully you pay less than 26,888. You aren't far off the price of a new Evo for that.

yea, unfortunately it was sold and i believe that it jacked up the price because it was a SSL. im going to look at another one today but i have suspicions of a repaint. I've searched but does anyone remember all the vin locations from the top of their head or any other used car tips? i could use them.

oo check this out. scroll all the way down at look at the horsepower rating.
