Wow, i did not know what i was missing out on...turbo is great
and intoxicating.
So this is my first turbo car, and i really paranoid about preventive maintence. So i need your peoples advice!
I bought my 05 EVO with a blown clutch...it was from a guy who gets parts from our dealership...He bought it from another guy for 11k b/c a truck backed into it...so he changed the hood, fender, headlights etc..used it till the clutch went and sold it for $12.9k to me...35k on the clock...has all leather interior and infinity sound system
When i got the car, i changed the oil right away...then the engine oil light came on...so i changed the oil pressure switch and that went away...
There are so many things i am not familiar with in this car...
1.) Is the valvetrain noisey in these cars? or is it just my car?
2.) The car came with INJEN upper and lower intercooler piping + BOV
3.) I hear a whine from the fuel pump, so i guess it has the warblo 255 pump
4.) For the exhaust i see a test pipe in place of the cat...and in the end of the test pipe i see a wideband? an o2 sensor with 4 wires going up into the cabin...
5.) has manual boost controller
My major concern now...is this car safe? do you guys think it is tuned? The highest boost i saw driving was 22-24 psi. Can these cars handle the extra boost safely? And since the car is running richier will it degade my engine oil sooner?
Do all these cars have a gas smell to their engine oil?
I go on many road trips..should i turn this car back to stock for reliability? or is it realiable the way it is...
thanks for reading!

Well, coming from a mercedes CLS to a modded evo, yes, your gonna hear more noises. I would try to find a local tuner shop that knows evos and can check your car out and give you advise on what it needs.
22-24 pounds of boost is nothing. Most guys on the forums run 25 daily driving.
Evo's come 20 PSI from the factory. Just FYI.
Might want to pull the maps and see if its been tuned correctly however.

1) it's normal to hear more noise coming from a "luxury" car but it shouldn't be abnoxiously loud.
2) ok... lol
3)very possible.
4)sounds like the stock O2 sensor. A wideband is normally before the Cat/test pipe. Do you have a WB guage in the cabin somewhere?
As for the gas smell in the oil.... you might want to do a leak downa nd compression test to see if something inside isn't farked. If the car wasnt tuned properly with a aftermarket fuel pump and higher boost, it will destroy the insides eventually.

I think my car is tuned...but i don;t know....because i have no CAT and the a/f ratio sensor before the test pipe is clipped and the o2 in back of the test pipe goes up the chassis... If my car had the stock ECU wouldnt the check engine light come on? My car passed NYS inspection which involves running diag. through the cars ECU... I'm confused...i have no cat, no a/f ratio sensor, no engine light, bigger fuel pump and upped boost....what do you guys tihnk is going on....any shops in NYC you guys recommend? thanks for your responses again!

Mitsubishi ECUs are not as finnicky as the mercedes. If your outside temp sensor, on a mercedes, gets disconnected, you can throw a check engine light! ( I have personally seen it) Crazy Germans,

It could be an Wideband O2 because I've seen lazy people put it in place of the rear O2 sensor when they don't want to take the time to get their downpipe tapped, also the rear O2 cable does run into the cabin under the passenger seat.
Also normally you would throw a check engine light but you have either 1 of 2 scenarios here:
1) Could be the stock rear O2 with (hopefully) a antifouler plug over top of it
or
2) Rear O2 sesnor run lazily in place of the rear O2.
Either way using ECUFlash makes it very easy to eliminate the rear O2 sensor code that would be thrown in either scenario.
If you are mechanically inclined you can check most of this yourself....or check this forum or a local one for a reputable shop.

My advice is to schedule an appointment at DG Motors (they are in Lindenhurst). They are one of the elite Evo tuners in the country and you aren't far away.
They can tell you what you've got and tune it anywhere from mild to wild.
