Hello there new Evo owner! I read your post regarding the unfortunate
valvetrain damage. It looks and sounds like there was a pretty serious
piston to valve clearance issue here which might have been caused by
several things. The timing belt had definately jumped over some teeth
on the cam gears which might have been caused by either an overly
stretched belt and or an over reving condition ie; missing a gear on WOT.
Anyway the whole cylinder head needs to be removed and inspected for
anymore damage and the entire valvetrain will need to be replaced. Also
the piston crowns will need to be checked as well for any serious damage.
Hopefully that will be it, without having to remove the entire short block assembly.
