My 183,572 Mile 2003 Evo

Hi guys, I'm new to the site.

Still trying to navigate it.

Anyway, a little backround on my car:

2003 Tarmac Black Evo 8- bought used with 67,000 in 2005.

Now it has 183,572 Miles on it. I commute about 120-140 miles a day.

When I bought the car I thought it was relatively stock, but had Typhoon intake, manual boost controller,Downpipe, Walbro pump and aftermarket timing belt.

I have done two belt services and waterpumps already. And both front wheel bearings.
I have added, Front and Rear Brembo cross Drilled with Hawk SPS Pads, APS Recirc valve, vortex generator, and headlight eyelids.

Clearcoat on wing is peeling like crazy. Getting the bodyshop to fix it for me this week. Also getting a Greddy Titanium racing Exhaust next week.

Question is this: Am I crazy to do any mods with this high miles?
Car seems to be fine and doesn't burn oil.

I want about 400HP. Some people told me get HKS 272, the exhaust, injectors, Hybrid turbo, bigger FMIC and tune.

Well, anyway, thanks for reading.

How is the suspension holding out? That might be another thing to save for besides a long block!

+1 save up and buy a beater and turn that thing into a track monster. as for cam suggestions alot of people are having great results with Kelford 272's, there is a great cam post on this forum where they test most of the major brand names to include HKS and Kelford take a read and make your choice.

This is very impressive to say the least! I say mod away. If the car feels strong even after 184k miles , it should be able to take a beating. I do recommend an engine rebuild though because modding at this point will take a bigger toll on the engine than it would have if you modded it earlier. Good Luck! Its nice to know how long evos can hold up!

Thats pretty cool, that many miles, and welcome to the forums. Lets see some pics of that monster. I would say keep driving as is and save your money for a rebuild/stroker motor go all cosworth if you can...cant go wrong. But if money is the issue there are multiple routes to achieve your goals and not breaking the bank to bad.

if the car has been well maintained which it sounds like it has been then i would not be afraid to do mods. i would go over the car first, boost leak test, check the plugs or replace etc. i think cams (may want to research which cams would suit you best), a good fmic, licp and a tune would open the car up quite a bit. i used mellon for my tuning and the car runs very strong.

Does sound like a great candidate for a rebuild. I feel guilty pulling some of the stock parts off of my car because they are nearly new, but it's perfectly justified for you.

I'm impressed the motor went that long...my previous cars (other brands) have needed a head rebuild, transmission, or something else unaffordable, long before then.

Man, I certainly am surprised at the amount of mileage the evo has to date. What kind of compression readings do u have? That would say how well ur engine is holding up. And of course, as someone else mentioned above, check if there is any boost leak. Good luck with your car.

It sounds like you've been doing a good job at keeping up with regular maintenance. I would say mod away and have some fun with it..
