Dia Queen Super Multi Gear oil
Dia Queen Super Multi Gear oil
I am about to do my 30k maintenance on my 6spd evo 9, and bought the Dia Queen Super Multi Gear 75w85 from my local Mitsubishi Dealership.
Here's my problem. I'm not sure if this is the right stuff, genuine mitsubishi oil for my transmission. Something seems fishy. The 4L can of oil only cost $26, which seems very cheap to me (i think it's supposed to be about 80). The cap is pretty flimsy, looks like it doesn't seal at all. I took the cap off and it's only like 75% full. It weighs 6 lbs (which is less than 4 Liters) This oil looks yellow like motor oil, but i don't know what it's supposed to look like.
Here are the pics. What should I do? use it or return it?

Thanks

thanks for verifying the part number halfnhalf83;
my guess it's because it's not all of it in there. the service guys might have used it and put it back in the parts dept. The guy at the counter said it's their last one. But I don't know for sure if I should risk it, or go somewhere else.

If you are worried about it (and maybe you should be), take it back and buy a full can from somewhere else.
I bought Diaqueen for my 5-speed from TRE. On their web page they had a picture of the oil I was ordering. The can in the picture had a dent in it. I thought - why photograph a can with a dent in it? So, UPS delivered my ordered oil and the can I got was the one in the picture. Well, it must have been genuine.

"These days every single can comes to us looking like it's been drop-kicked all the way from Japan. They never leak, but they are always dinged up. If your can comes that way, please understand that that's how we got it."
I guess it's pretty common to be all dented up. I mean, the are 4L metal cans, and I'm sure they're not treated very nicely while being shipped.
As far as the OP goes, that looks like the right fluid to me. $26 is crazy cheap. Even if it is only 75% full, you should have enough. You need just under 3 quarts to fill the trans (Not sure if 6 speeds take more or less than 5 speeds). 75% of 4 is 3.... 3 quarts = 2.8L. You should have enough. JUST enough. 3L = 3.1 quarts, so hopefully the MR trans doesn't take more than 3.1 quarts, assuming that you're assumtion of 75% is correct. It could be 80% full, which would mean you have 3.4 quarts... or 85% would be 3.6 quarts

I'm going overboard on purpose... I can't sleep. But it's all useful information
It doesn't sound like they let you know it was opened? I would go back and get them to put in writing (or with witnesses) that if you put this stuff in and you have issues that they will take care of it.
Personally I wouldn't trust a shop that sells me an opened fluid container without letting me know as such. I certainly wouldn't trust them to not taint the contents for whatever reason. Good luck!
