Starting on a Hill...

So I've just had my Evo for about a month or so and haven't driven started or stopped on a hill that was fairly steep, but today I had my first experience. It seems like I have to put a lot of gas to get it started out of a hill, should I be worried? I'm coming from driving a Honda Civic and I do not remember having to put that much gas into the car for it to start climbing. Any ideas?!

I've tried searching and could only find hill climb videos :[

You will want to spool the turbo a little bit. Rev gas and slip clutch. Remember that your car wont make real power until around 3000 rpms. Just practice!

try having a after market flywheel... so much harder!!! but remember your evo is AWD which uses more hp to more than your civic yo move.

Ahh okay.. it's gonna suck especially driving around on campus and stopping for people on crosswalks, they're probably gonna think I'm trying to show off =[.
Anyway thanks for the answers guys.

you can always use your E-brake when starting on hill, that way your feet can do the clutch and gas pedal..

when u start to feel the car pulling let the e-brake off.

and just get a 3rd leg like i do...

Maybe park your car so that the front faces downhill and you won't ever have to worry about it. If you live in front of a college, you're gonna lose major cool points with the ladies if you always stall the car.

ok there's no need for any of the above. All you have to do is let out the clutch to where the car won't roll back and add gas and drive normally. This works even on the steepest of hills without making excess noise. When I first got my car, I used to rev it up to 3K and slip the clutch really fast but after a year or two I figured out there was no need. People always thought I was preparing for a launch...going uphill...

That doesn't help for intersections that are on hills.

i used to live in washington state and what i would do is, i put my clutch all the way in put the car in first, for this next part you need a few people behind the car, i push my gas all the way down to turn on my drag style anti lag(21 psi off the line yes please) and then slip off the clutch to do a spectacular AWD burnout slash leave the light in style...LOL! just playing

no i remember those small mountains they call hills there especially in downtown seattle by pikes market. like it was mentioned above slowly let out your clutch until you feel it engage, RPMs should drop ever so slightly at this point, then you ave to roll your foot off the brake while rolling it onto the gas at the same time, it a PIA before you get it down and i remember stalling a few times down town but you will get it before long

Oh god, I wouldn't even dare to drive in Seattle the hills are way too steep. I remember being an automatic car and stopped on a hill and it would roll back so bad w/o brake that is.
