So Im planning on taking the leap

Im a big american muscle car fan, always has been, and always will be. I also love imports aswell. Things in my life are stating to get better than they were at the beginning of the year. I currently own a pontiac trans am, Im totally in love with the car. It is an automatic, and theres nothing wrong with it in my opinion. But now I want something a little bit bigger interior space, along with truck space. So I wouldnt want to be getting back into a coupe as my next vehicle. I know gas mileage isnt something thats best in the evo, but who really cares, right? Its about the smiles per gallon, not the miles per gallon. It will be my daily driver since I dont have a beater to get around in. So how does the evo do as a daily driver for some of you folks on here? Also I was curious to see with just bolt on will the evo be able to get into the low 12s with no problem?

I also wanted to note that my phone totally sucks at searching on any forums that I use. So dont drop the "search" bomb.

With 380 whp, I can still get 26 m.p.g. cruising at 60. Carefully selected bolt-on evos can do 11's with badass driving. What year evo are you looking at?

but you also live in socal so STEALTH set up is a Must! I would suggest a fp red or HTA green on E85 with supporting stealth mods...

the CHP do not like us evos much

Yeah thats what I was thinking, I know evos are capable of doing that. I just wasnt sure if I heard wrong or not. The year model Im looking into is the 2003 - 2005 since I like the front end a lot better. Also I wouldnt mind either a 5spd, or 6spd. Maybe you might be able to enlighten me on the stealth setup since its terminology that Im not familiar with.

pretty much if you live in california you need to make your engine bay look as close to factory as possible and your exhaust shouldnt be too loud or have a huge bling tip...

for example RRE Road Race Engineerings stealth exhaust is great..

the CHP will bust you for anythin even stuff as small as no front plate to an intake... try to purchase parts that are CARB legal and the less bling under the hoood the better

start by taking off the wing. that will help a ton!
Noise will also get the unwanted attention, but with being in CA and having smog, you shouldnt have too much to worry about. Dont get a red car haha.

I owned a 2002 Trans am ws6 before the evo. After mods the only thing you'll miss is the TA's exhaust note.

and the t-tops, and the ability to spin the tires instantly at any rpm. I still own both, the evo is way faster but I couldn't live without the T/A too!

Yes, I agree. I wish I had both.

I have a 2003 evo and only have bolts and I get into the 12s. Like everyone says just depends on your driving ability. A good tuner is also very helpful once you get the parts on. Unlike NA cars tuning is very important to the evo and can make a big difference. Get a Turbo back exhaust with high flow CAT and plenty of resonators, drop in highflow filter, manual boost controler, lower intercooler piping and new intercooler(one that doesn't have a stenciled name on it)then just get a good tune and you should be sitting in that 320-340whp mark

Even without bolt ons a IX with a good tune and an MBC is a lot of fun to drive. An old friend of mine had a T/A and it was fun cruising around on the highway but the Evo is just over the top on tight back roads and everything in between. One thing that I'll give the T/A and American muscle cars is that full throttle burnouts are guilt free compared to the higher revving Evo.
