Buying first evo

Edit: as a point of interest to those looking for an Evo, the SE package included the aforementioned aluminum roof, HIDs, red stitching on the seats, a different front lip, and brightly finished BBS wheels. It was only available on silver, grey, and black GSRs (ie. 5-speeds). Technically, there's no such thing as a MR SE, just as there's no GSR in the USDM. The Appearance Package for the MR included the SE front lip, brightly finished BBS wheels, and seats with red stitching, and could also be had on only silver, grey, and black colored cars. The SSL had a sunroof, HIDs and a leather interior. The IX (GSR) didn't come with HIDs or an aluminum roof, and had the black/grey leather/Alcantara interior.

Your having a MR was never in question. You claim to have a SE-SSL. The two trim levels are mutually exclusive. As described, your car is a SSL. What makes it a SE-SSL, when such a beast never existed?
just go with the car that you bond with once you test drive it....evo 8 and 9 are the same freaking car besides the mivec ( which in the 8 can be solved with bigger cams).....ALL evos handle beautiful and are fast BUT if you want to get to nitty greedy than you can get the SSL package BUT dont forget the SSL package does make the car weigh more....everyone here tries to defend their own car by saying evo9 is better, and evo8 is slow and a bunch of other bull****, but those are poor excuses for those guys that pay over $20k for a used evo. "Technically" evo9 has 20hp more than an evo8, so if you think about its nothing that big of a deal...sooo just buy the best car for the price you will love any model evo's you buy, they are all built to perform..
yeah mr's were the only with an aluminum roof. they weighed in I believe close to 60 lbs heavier than a rs. The trannies, I just heard the syncro's were crap. the final drive is

I know your transfer case will eat it on a launch before your tranny will. so the burscher or shep website says.
If you maintain your vehicle how your suppose to, which is expensive and time consuming then you wont have any problems with your tranny. every other oil change you change the tranny fluid, every 4 oil changed your change your transfer case and acd fluids (if so equiped).
mobile 1 in transfer and acd and diffs, and royal purple or mobile 1 (I jump between them) in the engine. The most neglect in a higher performance vehicle is maintenance.
Just my opinion, experience and research though.

MR, RS, and SE models had aluminum roofs.
Here are some Evo weights:
