Thinking of selling
Thinking of selling
So i am really thinking of selling the Evo and my situation is a little different then some of these threads, For one i am 19 and not working i was able to buy the car because i got a inheritance and frankly evo's are my favorite cars in the world so i would kind of feel like i took a big hit selling my favorite car and lets be frank theirs nothing better then this car in the 40 thousand$ price range
whats killing me is the maintenance costs and the damn mod bug
i have had this car for a year and a half and spent over 15k on it
something is constantly going wrong with the car, i really think i just brought a lemon.
my question for you guys is what new/used cars could i get that would be as fun and fast as the evo but with a lower cost to own
my only rule is the car cant be older then 2000 and no FWD

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Nope, nothing wrong with it - its an Evo. If you read though these threads where someone like you is thinking about getting an Evo, we always stress the same points - its an expensive car to own.
FWIW, my IX is reliable to a fault and required nothing more than factory-specified maintenance and fuel. Zero clanks/rattles, outstanding drivability, and a joy to own. The RS I had before was no different. Of course, it hadn't been screwed-up by installing mods for the sake of mods, rattled to death with overly stiff motor mounts and a suspension setup with virtually no compliance. Yes, its a relatively expensive expensive car to own, but citing reliability as a pitfall of the car, itself, is simply absurd. Perhaps I misunderstood your comment.
Keep the car and get the issues fixed. These care are extremely reliable if the work is done correctly and maintenance is kept up. What are your issues? why do you think it's a lemon? a couple little problems will ruin your day I understand and make you hate the car, most of us have been through when adding new mods but patience will work it out.
I feel you on the high cost though. The pain of my next purchase.
AMS Exedy Push Double clutch - $2300
Wavetrac Front Diff + TRE upgrade - $1500
TRE rear end upgrade - $350
Approx $4300 with tax. Labor I do myself.
but it sure will be fun when it's done.

Im not sure how you drive it but I mean I have not seen many evo's that have a ton of problems. If you dont have a job, go out and get one.. its not that hard if you are willing to take time and do it. If you dont want to go out and get a job, then sell the car to someone that can maintain it and afford it.
I have to give it to you. At least you were up front and admitted that you couldn't afford the car and the reason you were able to purchase it in the first place. Most people your age would tell others they worked for their inheritence; or at least that's the way the spoiled brats are in the city I live in.
I agree though, the car is relatively expensive to own. The motor bent a rod due to oil starvation (faulty oil pump) on my way home from purchasing it. That alone left a sour taste in my mouth but when it's running right, I absolutely love it.

its just getting to be a pain really its been none stop for the last half of 09 problem after problem
1st coolant filled up my cylinders and i almost hydrolocked
2nd my clutch goes prematurely it only had 4000 miles and i granny drive and have launched the car like 3 times
3rd my rear diff starts going
4th i find out i have the old defective kelfords in my car and have to get new ones
and now after just getting my car back after 3 months the starter dies which i know isnt a big deal but damn i have had the car back for less then a week
it sucks but like you said, when its running right i really do love it.
