New to Forums Pics of my Evo 8 TB.
My 2003 TB Evo. Im new to the evo world, I guess it is time to learn a new platform. I bought this one pretty modded for a great price. Car makes around 400hp at CFT dyno. You guys prolly saw this car up on online for sale. Seems like a great deal. Also Had a question it has an evo 9 mr 6spd. tranny. Hows strong and good is this tranny? Mostly the good and bad of it.

400HP is a little high for the tranny. anything over is pushing it. They are sorta weak.
Its a 6 speed though, so good for cruising.
Nice, what did you pick it up for if you dont mind me asking?

Welcome to the forums, and nice murdered out Evo.
But let me get this straight--someone (presumably a previous owner) installed the 6-speed transmission from the MR?
Most people who don't have the MR transmission will be quick to talk about how "weak" it is, when it reality there were a few cases (well discussed within the online community) of the fourth gear having issues, though it was typically in higher-output applications that saw a lot of road race action. However, it's very reliable for daily driving and can deal with a lot, until you start making BIG power. This is why some people have decided to switch to the five-speed unit, whether a stock one or a stronger, rebuilt unit.
Generally speaking, the transmission is smoother and is convenient at freeway speeds since you can be in lower rpms in top gear. (For example, 80 mph is about 3700 rpm or so in the 5-speed, while the 6-speed will keep you a few hundred below that, which is nice if you or your occupants don't like to listen to the engine revving at cruising speeds.) However, the unit is a tad heavier (though if I'm wrong, please correct me) and gets SLIGHTLY lower fuel economy, according to the EPA estimates (which to me almost negates the purpose of the sixth gear). But due to its gearing, you can go a few mph higher in terms of top speed.
