front crash bar removal

I am considering removing the front crash beam, but am concerned that it may make the steering/handling vauge because of chassis flex. For those that have removed the beam without any other bar to take its place (Cusco power brace/custom alternative), have you noticed any problems? BTW, I have searched without finding any specific discussion of this issue. Please note that I am NOT asking if the removal will void my insurance or crush my intercooler in a crash...

Thanks for your thoughts!

This post got moved from the handling secton to newbie, but I am still interesed in thoughts on the handling effects of front crash bar removal; any loss of steering precision, for instance? I would appreciate more feedback. Thanks!

Are you saying that the chassis will become flexible while driving, or that it will be less structurally sound in a crash?

Crash Bar

The JDM EVOLUTION's do not have the Crash bar, This is on the US SPEC cars to meet the 5mph standards.. With out it, The car will not be any different. Its Only there for the the insurance comp. Your Car will be lighter, I think its about 30lbs. The Only thing you need to worry about is if you have a Wreck, The Insurance will not fix it if they Find out that it was removed.

Thanks! I wondered if the JDM Evo IX had a crash bar. I assumed that the USDM was, at the very least, bigger to meet our greater frontal impact standards.

Its no where near 30lbs for just the front. More like 12-15lbs. Mine got bent couple years back in a minor bump. They def do their job but i havent put it back on since and have noticed 0 difference in handling.

I hear that! When I was DD my evo, I got hit in a parking lot at @2mph. Without the crash beam it prob. would have crushed my intercooler. This mod. def. has some risks!

ok I lived in Okinawa, Japan for 4 years..the speed limit is slow as****!!! Thats prolly why they dont have em..DO NOT remove the crash beam u never know what will happen..trust me!!! My buddy slammed my Evo IX SE into a tree head on...Im SOOOOO glad I had that beam...U will be too if u wreck...why risk ur life for 30lbs...jus lose 30lbs of weight off ur body and that will compensate(if ur overweight) Jus think twice...its their for a reason... Ur call.

It does have added safety features. Sadly, I bought my car without one cause the previous owner felt the need to make a hideous aftermarket bumper fit.

thnaks for the input, I think you are both right, but my question was only about how it would/would not effect the handling.
