SRT4 To EVO9

Hey guys and grils looking to buy a use modded evo 9 in april. I have a srt4 right now but it should be gone sometime this week. Im looking for one with upgrade turbo preferable a gt35r or a fpred. what i want to do with the car right away is get it tune on e85 and run 1200 cc injectors and get a fullblown dual fule pump and a 2-step on the car. what should i ask about the car from the owner when buying a use evo?

It already has a 2 step on it. Holds revs at 5000 rpm. half throttle it till it gets to 5 then put pedal to the floor. Ask him about maintenence done on it. like if its over 60k or close to it if they did the timing belt or not. If the diff fluids were changed every 15k or not. If its modded its going to have been beatin a bit so dont worry about that. When on a test drive look out for a whining noise coming from the front. Usually loud in 1st gear if the transfer case is wearing out. good luck

Hey Evoson 23, I made the jump from an srt-4 to an evo ix last year. My advice would to just get as much background on the car as possible and if things don't add up or they seem dishonest then walk. I would avoid dealerships because who know what the history of the car is then. Otherwise, others suggest getting a shop to look at it, definately can't hurt any I thought the differential fluid only had to get changed every 30k? Tranny is 15k i think. I could be wrong though.

i too went from an srt-4 to an evo ix. i think you are crazy for looking at a car that's already been modded as heavily as that. as stated previously, that usually indicates the car has been beat on. the evo i picked up was bone stock, and i know i have nothing to worry about. good luck on your search.

or if your not constantly doing track days (atuox, drag, etc etc...) I just try to do all of it every 20k miles. All 3 meaning tcase rear diff and tranny. Its all pretty easy to do anyway.

My opinion is to look for the Tcase wine. If you find one with it...look for a different one. It would jut be less headaches. Timing belt is a big one too as mentioned above. Make sure there is no hack wiring going on either from a standalone or something..

Maybe run a compression test if you have the tool. (or get one from autozone) Make sure its in spec... this might be over the top though??

good luck

With any modified car, you would want to look for signs of abuse and/or common broken parts.

If I was buying any modified car, I would research the mod path(s) and brands, I wanted to do, so it would give me direction on what cars to look at. You want to be very prepared to make a good choice of buying car as newbie owner you already behind the curve. When looking at differents cars, I would make sure the workmanship was quality as I have seen a lot of hacks. Research the mods the car has and make sure you get a full list of mods, because if something goes breaks you will need to know the information.
