Good luck not modding! I said the same thing when i got my EvoX GSR and within a month i was looking for parts, within 2 i ended up buying exhaust, BOV, carbon fiber hood, etc etc...it tends to get addicting!

I think the first thing to check out on a used evo is the transfer case. It should not make too much noise on decel above 3-4k rpm. Basic gear whine is fine, but if it sounds like a blender on decel you know the transfer is shot.

Take someone along with you if you test drive the car that knows cars well and noises they make.

Feel for any steering wheel judder while braking which could tell you that the rotors are warped, excessive wheel vibration while cruising means the wheels need balancing weights, if the car pulls left or right it needs an alignment.

Often times, the condition of the Brembo calipers will be a good sign as to how well the car was taken care of. If theyre pale, matte red (chipped, faded, cracked) the car was more than likely abused. Look for bends in the wheels too, especially on the inner lip of the wheels.

I would say when you do find an evo to look at, do some research to know what things should be on it so you can tell when things are weird, like there are lots of people selling ix's with VIII seats or wheels etc...

I have a black Evo VIII, and I love it. I have a couple of basic bolt-on mods, nothing fancy, I use it several times a week to drive to work. I don't think it's expensive compared to a lot of cars, it's very reliable. My clutch was replaced at 80K miles, and so far, nothing else major has gone wrong with it. The only thing I would warn you about, Evo's make a lot of bad noises, decel-noise, clunks, pops, etc.. but that just seems to be the nature of the Car. It has been my dream car for many years, and I finally got to buy one. Good luck to you.

Welcome and good luck on your hunt for one.

As for reliability, sure, stock would be great. But looking at all of the shiny new parts you can put on changes everything.

I definitely am reading!!!

I'm not saying I won't mod it..but I want stock to start off with. It just better be a car worth modding and not break down!!

Michelle...that's funny. Now I can't wait. haha

I love how yall take the time to respond!! Helps out so much! Because I plan on buying next weekend! I can't wait any longer! I think I've looked all that I can. I found a car with 58k miles on it. They're asking 16,5 though. A little more than I wanna spend. But out of all the stock ones...it seems the better deal. I found a few up north but too afraid of rust underneath the car. I'm too nervous I can't get all excited and it's aggravating. ha

Thanks again everyone. I'll definitely let yall know what I get.
