I have had both kinds of seats. The SSL seats are wider a lot wider but have virtually no *** padding. VIII and IX seats are not completely the same, lower bolsters are different and much stiffer on the IX, they also don't become shinney after a few years of use.

I think that the 8 seats are comfortable. They're definitely snug on me, but it doesn't bother me at all for daily driving. After driving the car 1600 miles home, part of my back felt bruised from the tight seat. But that was a rather extreme scenario..

I guess I'll probably just keep the 8 seats for now. I'll pass up the deal on the IX seats I found.

Yea VIII's and IX's seem the same (owned both)

 

My purple 8 seats were more comfortable. My 9 seat's lower bolsters are stiffer and they look so much better.

 

somewhere in this thread is a comment about money for different seats + weight reduction of car to compensate vs healthy diet of more driving less junk food...not that I'm saying it...

I have an 05 evo 8 with leather seats and they feel really wide. I get in my friends 06 evo 9 and his seats snug me. Maybe its just the leather that makes me slip around lol.

I'm 6'1" 250lbs.
