buying a evo..
buying a evo..
ive been looking for a white evo 9 for a couple months now and one finally popped up at a dealer not far from me. i already checked the carfax and it has a clean record. im also gonna ask for the dealer sheet that shows and services it had done on it. warranty work, oil changes, etc anything i should be on the lookout for other then the usuals?? thx
good luck getting all paper work, what was done, you can get it only if Original owner left paper work with the dealer. just drive it, check the clutch, get the car on the hway to check for any noise tcase/rear end/ ask them if you can put the car on the lift, look under the car, check for leaks. Done.
what color? how many miles....

wicked white and has slightly over 48k on it.
i personally would look for modified parts. if there are any then that means somebody has been smashing it. Hard. and you should test drive to make sure it doesnt feel too beaten.
but thats just me though. i like to buy my cars all stock. unless of coarse i knew who the first owner was.

good info but i already read threw this. im looking for the more usual signs that i will notice when looking under the car of mods or abuse. or just the normal stuff that breaks..
it specifically goes through all the usually tell tale signs
Here's what I'd do:
Pop the hood and look around the airbox:
look for any missing mounting bolts. Often when cars are returned to stock, not all the hardware can be found and the airbox may be missing a mounting bolt or something.
Look at the radiator:
If a lot of work has been done around the turbo, and the radiator wasn't removed, you'll see all kinds of bent fins on the radiator. This *could* be an indication that careless work was done on the car.
Look at your intercooler piping and couplers:
Are there still worm-screw clamps on the hoses? If so, do they look chewed up? Again, more signs of potential removal/replacement. Not necessarily a problem, but just things to help you gather more information about the car.
Check the front bumper and wheel wells for broken or missing plastic fastener-madoo's. These things are notorious for being a PITA. Many evo owners can break, or lose a few while working on the car. Much of the work needing to be done to the cars requires removal of the front bumper for easier access. Missing or broken fasteners can be an indication that its been worked on a bit.
Drive the car:
verify the 2-step is there, and at the correct RPM. This will at least let you know if its running something close to a stock rom on it at the moment.
This is about all I can think of off the top of my head. I hope this helps.
