As I didn't want to say anything less encouraging in your thread, I hope you're not disappointed when you find out that the MR is not the most desirable Evo, at least to the aficionados of the breed. Many folks look for MRs due to their rather absurdly unfounded street cred, but reality paints a different picture. Good luck.
I was referring to the zero lift package, my mistake. Not disapointed at all as the MR is still the most desirable and selling for a higher price in the used car market compared to other trim levels of the same year. I understand you wanted the 5-speed so it will be reliable once you make 500hp or so but there are others like myself that are happy with 300hp and the extra gear. Why such a negative view of the MR? I understand you are partial to the SE since you chose to buy one but in reality the SE is the same car as the MR minus the tranny, correct?

Ironically, you've just illustrated my point.

the MR or even better, the MR SE is the most desirable Evolution IX.
...only to non-Evo folks.

the SE is just a badging of a cheaper alternative. like the endeavor SE, outlander SE. the MR stands for Mitsubishi Racing. The 6 speed of the MR has a very close ratio and that the 5th gear is higher than the 5 speed of the regular, base evo IX that acceleration 5th gear(6-speed) vs 5th gear(5-speed), the MR is faster.
You're a mod and I'm going to leave this alone. <sigh>

There is the stigma that the MR transmission is weak and that it's cheaper to just swap the suspension for something better ... which may hold some water. While I don't agree, I can see how this belief would lead someone to get the SE over the MR.

Personally, I love my 6-speed and hate having to drive the 5-speed Evos. The ratio between 4 and 5 just seems off, and you're stuck staying in 4th in the 1/4, which sucks with the stock valvetrain trapping in the 118 range.

But again, we all have our opinions.

Who, me? Do you have any idea who you're talking to?

Why such a negative view of the MR?
...stick around and you'll know.

Correct. I even have MR's Bilstein suspension on my car, but that has nothing to do with it.

I can't pull out the mitsu website, but here it is from motortrend. the 2006 model came with the GSR, RS and MR. then added the SE model with the different front spoiler. since the MR is considered the "top dog" they added an appearance package and is called MR SE.

Looks like you did a Google search and cited the only official-looking mention of a MR SE. Motor Trend?

unfortunately, I have not saved the mitsubishi website and as I recall they mentioned the MR SE. and yes I mentioned motortrend because they keep an archive of their articles.

Okay ... let's lay out some facts ...

1: the MR cost the most
2: the MR is the fastest around a circuit (but perhaps only until the transmission explodes)
3: The GSR/RS can save a shift in the 1/4 in the 115-120 trap speed range
4: some people prefer the 5-speed
5: other prefer the 6-speed
6: the RS is ZOMG awesome

Now, can we please get back to the OP's question?

Where did this come from?

FWIW, I know you really like the MR for some of the same reasons as the OP. The rest of the rationale can be found in your previous reply to yours truly.

SE's are for kids who think they got somthing "Special". In reality it isn't that special; it's just the same damn thing like every other IX's.

I'm sitting here thinking ... and I seem to remember talking to the dealer and telling them that I wasn't interested in the MR SE model because it wasn't worth the price. I feel like I used those exact terms. So, I knew the term "MR SE" before even having the car. That may mean I was on EvoM before I had the car, or that there were references elsewhere ... I dunno. I also remember asking why it didn't have the SE badge ...

2: the MR is the fastest around a circuit (but perhaps only until the transmission explodes) Highly depends on the track, itself
3: The GSR/RS can save a shift in the 1/4 in the 115-120 trap speed range Sure
4: some people prefer the 5-speed Agreed
5: other prefer the 6-speed Agreed
6: the RS is ZOMG awesome Agreed, sometimes I wish i still had mine

Now, can we please get back to the OP's question? Sounds good to me

That's not exactly true. The SE was the only CT9A to offer a combo of an aluminum roof, 5-speed, and HIDs. The only other Evo with an aluminum roof and a 5-speed was the RS. If one wanted ABS and an aluminum roof, the MR was the only other choice, but it came with the 6-speed. HTH

My intention of this post was to get some factual information on the two different models and if in fact the MR SE did exist and what options made it an MR SE. As for the SE being a better car than the MR as some so forcefully want to insist is just a matter of opinion as far as I am concerned and has nothing to do with my original post. Maybe you can start your own thread on the issue and argue the point with others that care to argue.
