On a IX, only if it's a SSL. Speaking of the roof, does it have the "rails" going down its sides? If it does, then the roof is aluminum, though ATM the car looks like a 'GSR" with a SE badge.

Ask all the MR owners who put SE badges on their trunks.

The shift console is not from a 6-speed.

Here are my observations:

1) floor matts dont say mr
2) center console doesnt have the mr badge on it
3) rear seats dont have the head rests as the gsr ssl edition have them, so not sure if the gsr have head rests in general or not.

thats a really good u deal u got there! congrats!

holy crap man!!! i bid on this evo on auction too! i dont remember but i think i put 9600 on it. you got it for 10200 right? or something like that? damn! 1 more grand and it wouldve been mine haha. But dude its an SE, i even still have auction info and pics of it on my laptop. Its not MR for sure, its an SE, or it could be a gsr thats been upgraded to SE standards, and in that case i would just call it an SE anyways if its got all the things an SE has. They dont have to have red stitches on the seats. I got myself a red MR later that week and it doesnt have stitches either. This is so cool tho! good purchase man! really good purchase!

If the car has an aluminum roof, it's a SE. It's not something that can be retrofitted with ease.

It's NOT an 'SE', and it is NOT an MR. It is 100% a GSR WITHOUT the 'SSL' package...Best of luck and have lots of fun with it! Someone did upgrade the wheels to the MR BBS mesh wheels though!

yup i understand that as well, but you cant tell that by pictures, although it doesn't have a sun roof, which means there's a good chance its an aluminum roof, and therefore SE

The SSL is the least common IX next to the RS. As such, a "good chance" is a questionable supposition if solely based on a lack of a sunroof. I was actually replying to your assertion that a IX can be upgraded to a SE, and that isn't going to happen by installing a trunk badge and upgrading the wheels, red stitching or not. Once the OP can see the roof, he'll know.

+1 its a GSR with MR wheels, vortex generator, and MR gauges... non-MR floormats, 5 speed

It has no red stiching on the seats and shifter, which the SE has... also no SE front lip

The gauges were stock on the MR and the RS, and offered as an option on all other models. The floor mats make no difference; I have RS floor mats in my SE.

FWIW, there's no red stitching on the shift boot, but it would have been nice.
