Question looking at buying an evo 8

I am currently looking into buying an evo 8. I am new to the forums and i was just wondering if anybody could give me some input on this car.
The man says that its fine as a daily driver with its current tune and that it was tuned by somebody named Sean Ivy.

What i want to know is if this is a good deal or not. He says the car comes with an extra motor, stock rims with snow tires, and much more.
I want a car that can be fast at the track but at the same time can still be used as a daily driver all year round.

also my current car is a 2001 toyota celica so this would be a major upgrade for me!

Wow that thing looks great! I would just make sure if its had the 60k mile service or not because you will want to do that if it has not been done yet. other than that it looks like a solid buy!

btw, welcome to the forums.

I will ask the seller if he has done the 60K service if not i can do it myself. Is there anything else i should lookout for or ask the seller about the car?

the seller says this.....Car comes with extra motor, trans, rear, drive shaft, and much more. how much would i be able to sell these for or would it be a better idea to keep them incase something breaks?

The motor only has 5k on it but things like the water pump might still be original right?

Just cause he rebuilt the motor doesnt ness. mean he did the 60k service, I've known people to half butt things like this so its an idea of things to look for.

OP...Also look at the boots on the axles to see if there is any excess greese coming from around them.

the 1zz in my celica had an oil burning problem which ended up with me having a spun bearing. is the 4g63 in the evo 8 notorious for anything like that?

I am going to have the car taken to a mechanic to have everything on the car looked at before i even think about buying it.

my last question is would this car pass inspection at the DMV?

dont take this in a bad way, but that is way to much power for someone of your normal driving routine to take on.

once again do not take this offensive but it would be much smarter to look into an evo closer to stock than this one since it is pushing 468 whp.

the faster you go, the better the chance of something breaking.

if you could keep your celica as your daily driver and then have this evo as strictly a track car then it may be a good idea.

my .02, good luck on what path you choose and welcome to the forums.

John

If you buy that Evo, I hope you keep your Celica for a DD. Personally, I wouldn't even look at that car.

Why wouldnt you even bother looking at this car? It looks very nice to me

Also i cant afford to have both cars insured so its one or the other and i would rather have the evo!

Why do you think you get a whole extra drvetrain with it? Because it won't break?

Look for an Evo that's much more mildly modded. It will be reliable enough to use as a DD. With a car you're looking it, you may be lucky to drive it on weekends. OTOH, if you have more cash put away and can afford to have an Evo-specific shop go through the car, then by all means....
