I should think 400hp would require clutch, fuel pump, exhaust components, intake, ecu tune / ems.. you also might need injectors, and could see issues with transfercase and trans down the road. Differentials can take a beating as well.

Evos are tough cars but nothing is invincible.

I would have to agree on that! My brothers 2003 honda civic's oem paint still looks nicer compare to the oem paint on my 2003 evo. I would have to say oem paint job is junk.

Your post piqued my interest, so I had a quick look at your other threads. You were asking about a paint job 5 years ago, due to the paint chips on your 03. What have you done to rejuvenate and maintain the paint since then?

Quote: the evo can hold 400 fairly easy as long as you don't beat on it.
bs. people say that about the stock car. you can beat on it all you want, as long as you do the maintenance. what's the point of buying a race car you have to baby? the car is made to take a beating and come back wanting more. you just have to know how to drive, and do proper maintenance.

Quote: The only common weak parts in an evo are the transfer case and clutch, but even so, they can take a beating before giving out. However, there are shops out there who have addressed these problems already. For example, shep racing, and buschur racing offer deals in which they take your transfer case or transmission and strengthen its internals, thus, helping to eliminate the problem all together! Ultimately if your looking to buy an evo, you will have to take it easy at first, but i am confident you wont be disappointed!
the transfer case and clutch are fine. the driver's skills are weak. i still say to this day there is nothing wrong with clutches in any EVO released in the US. 03-06. the problem is americans having zero experience with awd cars with a manual transmission. how else do you explain someone that does almost no racing buring up their stock clutch in 10k miles or less, and then someone like me racing every chance i get (autocross, drag), and just launching because I like launching, and getting 70k+ miles out of the stocker? i'm at 158,000 miles right now with zero issues with my TC, 6 speed transmission, or anything else that's supposedly weak on the car.

what i will say is a weak spot is the throttle body shaft seals, possibly the injector seals, and possibly hose couplings with high miles. other than that, the EVO is a stout car from the factory ready for the track from the showroom floor.

this X 1000. they built this car to be able to hold up to the abuse of rally and circuit racing. the car is stout. it's the driver's who aren't. you show me a broken EVO, and i'll show you somebody in the driver's seat, somebody with a wrench, or someone who tuned the car and did something wrong. EVO's don't break. People break EVO's.

Had mine for 20 months, put 25,000 on it. I don't "beat" the **** out of it, but I bought it for a reason, to enjoy, and god do I enjoy my IX every time I drive it. And in 20 months, I've never ever had a single problem. Because I take care of it. 335whp, stock drivetrain still, and still going strong.

All you have to do is test drive it. If you can feel/hear problems, research what it'd cost to fix those problems, or keep looking for the perfect one. Enjoy.

I really don't see any downfalls in the Evo. It is meant to take a beating and is just an amazing car!! You won't regret buying one.

400whp:
Fuel Pump
Intake
TB Exhaust
Meth Injection
FMIC w/piping
Cams?
Tune!!
