Looking to get an evo in the future (question regarding burning oil)
its the subaru's that have the spun bearing issue, not very common at all in evos, usually when a 4g63 goes its blows a hole in the block, burning oil... never heard of a case

Maybe he was trying to be funny.
Comparatively it doesn't take much to make an evo stupid fast, compared to other cars. Again this is opinion only but right now to me the evo is the best bang for the buck overall performance wise.

110K on my '03. Uses oil? I don't even check between fills anymore, doesn't use but maybe 1/2 quart in 5,000 miles. Spun bearing? My oil pressure is the same now as it was when new. I would say for the use this car is the most solid I've ever had. My luck with my previous VW's hasn't been anywhere as good as the evo's. Good luck with your ultimate choice.
As a former A4 VW owner, I'll say that my Evo has given me much less trouble than my VW ever did. Even my wife's newer MKV GTi has already given us more trouble than the Evo.
My car burns no noticeable amount of oil at 44k miles. Yes, low mileage I know.
For all of the Evos you've found that burn oil and have spun bearings, we can reference 5 or 10 that have 80k+ without these issues I'm sure.
I think the issues that you see are because you're looking at Evos FOR SALE. They are being sold for a reason ... it seems that not being able to afford repairs might be a big one. If they can't afford repairs, it might be fair to assume they couldn't afford proper maintenance either ... just a thought.
