Buying a USED EVO X...
Buying a USED EVO X...
So i have had enough of my civic si and want to get back into a Lancer. Ive been shopping around for a while for an Evo X for a couple months and I might have found one that I like and still get a good trade in for my car.
So I am asking the Evo X owners for advice on things I should be looking for to avoid any major problems in the future. These are the things i already check for;
Carfax for accidents, maintenance records
the Vin#, and check for recalls
Body damage
I look at the bolts in the engine bay for signs of alteration
and loose bumpers with missing clips.
curb rash, and the tire condition and what kind of tire.
Interior modification like holes from gauges being uninstalled
But I never owned an X so Im asking for insider information from you guys to avoid getting a beaten up evo or a returned to stock evo thats ready to take a Sh*t on me.
Any info is appreciated.

you just look at the condition of the car and see how the owner worked on his car, if the work is good and everything looks good the owner should of taken care of the car. my evo has basic setup and its up forsale also. as you mentioned ^^ you basicly checked for everything you could possibly check for. its not much different from buying any other car. did you find one at a dealer or private?
check tire wear and the sign of the stock clutch is a good thing.
buying from the original owner is ideal for these cars. you get an idea of exactly the person who was in the seat. young, old, daily driver, track car, retard, meticulous owner, etc...and savings on tax money.

BTW where can I find the license holder that mounts to the side instead of the center of the front bumper.
Hey Irvin!
1) Drive the car thoroughly and make sure the shifter is not notchy and does not grind into second or third gear. This is an issue that effects a great number of Xs, and is pretty annoying.
2) Check paint on the bottom of the back doors and just under that area for rock chips. Shows up really badly on red and blue cars. Much harder to see on silver and white.
3) Make sure clutch is OK by flooring the car for a second in 5th while on the Interstate going about 70. Check that it does not slip.
4) Ask dealership for Carfax to make sure no prior damage (obvious), and have them do all recalls.
5) Make sure no CELs or limp modes.
6) Read this thread that directs to known issues. LOTS of help here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ssues-etc.html
Good luck, man! Post up if you get it. If you have a link to it and want me to take a look at the pics/ad, I'd be happy to. Take care,
Seth

Thats exactly what im looking, details that only evo x owners know. I will pm you the link.
i found one at a dealer, the only reason why im considering a dealership and not private party is the tax break, and im semi upside down on my current loan since i bought the civic new last year, and they are giving me 20.5k for my trade since they are not moving too much on the evo. If I buy an evo privately i would have to pay taxes when i transfer my plates and it can range from $1000-$1250. I know, IL sucks.
