What exhaust are you using?

I have some custom made downpipe to fit my setup which isn't that great, but the remainder of my exhaust is garbage including that slightly flattened piece at the front of the car where it needs to clear. None of the lancer 3 inch stuff for sale is affordable. I'm wondering if anyone has used evo exhaust and just modified the length and flanges? How different is the catback from ours? If its bends fit and just the length and flanges are off, i can cut and weld it to fit and save a lot! since evo stuff is so inexpensive compared to oz stuff, at least for me here. I am also wondering if anyone has used the evo downpipe and just cut the flange on to their setup which I'm assuming most you have the 16g, I have a t3. The evo stuff is 3 inch and much cheaper than the 2.5 inch oz stuff, so if anyone has any info on whether this is possible or a "hell no" let me know, thanks.

Yea...I'm looking and it looks just like some after market oz exhaust, it goes under near the back tire where stock goes over. I'm wondering if full catback and the downpipe would line up and then just modify length from by the muffler or turbo and then just put a t3 flange on the downpipe....looks do able, any one tried it?

I'm going to be using a custom made cat out of magnaflow catconverter, an evo8 downpipe, and my SRS ebay exhaust that is 2.5". I think 2.5" will be fine for my <10psi of boost, but I do think if you go higher boost, more power eventually bigger exhaust would matter. I think though, that at some point, it's just wasted exhaust piping, because our little engine just can't push as much air out as the exhaust pipe can take. That being said, there is no reason Demon's car shouldn't have 10 inch pipes or whatever because it's not needing to be routed all the way back.

there is a common misconception that the car needs some form of back pressure like 2 1/2" pipe or 2 1/4" ,this is absolutely not true on a 4 cylinder what so ever .

On a v-8 engine by the general design and the way the cylinders are along with cam timing determines exhaust pulses on either bank of the engine , a slight amount of back pressure on a v8 leads to a very small amount of exhaust scavenging essentially pulling the gases from the system through back and forth opposing pressure waves , so in a v8 back pressure doesnt hurt and actually helps maybe by like .54% of 1 hp

since the pulses arent in 2 different pipes and on opposing sides of a 4 cylinder exhaust scavenging is essentially non existant ...

so to sum this completely up you may lose a small amount of low end hp with a larger exhaust on a non turbo lancer , but mid range will pick up along with top end speed back pressure is not needed at all so the bigger the better....

2.50 diameter is fine for a turbo lancer , Im running a 3" megan down pipe from an evo 9, custom stainless 3" test pipe and after that a 3" stainless back section into a buschur muffler... the bigger you can make the exhaust path from head to muffler the faster the turbo will spool to its effective range
